Ok, ok, ok...let me first say, this was not a typical HS baseball game. You could tell something was different when you arrived...Valet parking and a Band..yes, that's right..a Band.

After giving my keys to the TBR bus to the attendant, I strolled through the gates of the Corral wearing my TBR press pass. Wow...I was shocked seeing all the celebrities at the game, but more important were all the parents and players from other conference teams.

There was Steve and Pam with their son, Ben Buchanan. Ben was easy to notice...a sea of wimmin followed in his wake. There was Elliott Arrington, Kyle Shelton and TJ Worrell representin' South Meck....and the most loyal South Meck supporter of all time...SouthLoop and her husband, Mr. SouthLoop.

I saw Jeff Gordon, Ric Flair, DodgerBlue and Scootie Boo....the band was playin', the pans were beatin' and the bells were ringin'......needless to say...the place was rockin'

It was by far the most electric atmosphere I have witnessed at a HS baseball game!

I found ONE seat available in the upper deck of the MP side and I had to push this Fat Woman aside in order to squeeze into the space.

    Well, now for the game:

It was everything it was built up to be. Strong pitching, timely hitting and good defense. Ol' Braves had a meeting before the game with Rob Wilson to come up with a game plan how to pitch to the Vikings. I told him that we need him to throw at least 6 innings and have about 9 strikeouts and don't give up more than 1 run. Rob said he thought that would be a good plan and would try to execute it.

Well, during the 7th inning stretch, after I had devoured 2 dozen of Mrs. Wilson's home made, secret recipe, chocolate chip/oatmeal cookies (don't ask..she won't give me the recipe), I noticed this strange sound coming from beside me. It was that Fat woman...and she was singing!!

okay...as much as I had admired the heart and gutty performance of the Vikings from North Forsyth...I knew then, that the game was over. I started stepping down the stands, careful not to trip into the arms of some of Charlotte's prettiest women when I noticed Robert Woodard getting ready to take the mound for the 7th inning. I immediately looked up at the Fat Lady and she beamed her smiling eyes at me as she continued to croon.......

As I was walking to the valet attendant to have him retrieve my bus, I heard screaming and yelling that sounded like a banshee....
Myers Park won...the Western Division Champions!!!!

As I was driving Jeff and Ric home, I received a call on my cell from Rob Wilson...we talked for a minute and then I asked him what were his stats?

    He said, " 6 innings, 9 K's, 1 run..."

I told him, " Yep...good gameplan. We'll talk next week in Raleigh "

To all the Seniors on Myers Park baseball team...a special congratulations!! Just 3 years ago Myers Park was not considered a baseball school. Just 3 years ago...they were lucky to have 3 parents attend the game. Now, tonight.....there must have been a 1,000. Wow!!!...it's because of the hard work, dedication and leadership from the Seniors.

In closing, I would like to say good luck to the Mustangs next week and I know you will be bringing the rings home....and please enjoy this experience because this will be your last! :)

    Because the Sabres are prowlin'

Well, what a game... First of all thank you for the cookies in the stands...those were great!! This was one of the greatest high school sporting events I have ever attened! i admire the attempt of the North Forsyth fans, the futes and tubas were very cute, but nobody can stand against MP's fans. The end of the game, with the Mustang fans charging the field was one of the most amazing moments in MP baseball history.
As for next weekend, we will be there...some way or another...MP fans will be there to support the boys winning the state championship!!!
