How many pitches do most average high school pitchers throw? I was just wondering because I read where the pitcher from Surry Central pitched 10 innings and threw like 270 pitches against South Stokes. Is that not dangerous?

I sure hope he threw half of them left-handed and half of them right-handed.

Alot of factors figure into how many pitches a pitcher should throw. Examples are:
    Proper Mechanics?
    How long since last thrown?
How many pitches is the pitcher use to throwing?
When will the pitcher pitch next?
Has the pitcher had recent arm injuries?
Does the pitcher go through normal arm strengthening exercises?
Does the pitcher ice after throwing?

A good rule of thumb is an average of 15 pitches per inning. So 105 pitches in 7 innings is normal.

That said, 200+ is not good!

    Re: Re: Pitching question

more like a quarter righty a quarter lefty and a quarter right footed and a quarter left footed

btw 270 pitches? in 10 inn.? 27 pitches an inning? what on earth was the score 24-23? were they forced to go for two in the third overtime and miss?

270 pitches is CRAZY!!! Like someone else said, also looking at it from the perspective that would be 27 pitches per inning (10 innings),,, sounds like "someone" was also a little wild. Hopefully this was a misprint wherever you read this.

No misprint. The kid pitched over 270 pitches in 10 innings. His team lost by a score of 8-7 in the 1A state playoffs.
