What are folks thoughts on this series?

Rose would be considered by most as a prohibitive favorite. However, Rose was heavily favored vs Charlotte Harding in the mid 1980's and lost. They were also favored against Providence (1997) and South Meck (1999) and easily won.

Who thinks which team will win and why?

Okay...here's my thoughts. Rose is clearly the most talented team between the two.... the Greenies of Myers Park should have no chance against the baseball Goliaths.

...but Myers Park has a David and he will knock down those beasts from the East...Robert Woodard.

I have been saying this all year and people still don't believe me. Myers Park will win because they have something no one else has and that's Robert's will to win. He will not back down from anybody...he absolutely refuses to lose. His personality runs through the veins of all the players on his team.

With a potential 3 game series Robert will pitch in more than one.

Obviously, MP has talented players from top to bottom with the multi-talented Rob Wilson, Logan Smith, JJ Rollins and the rest of the team, but this is a team of destiny and not always the best players win...sometimes it is the best TEAM.

I believe this year something unusual is going to happen...a Western Conference team is going to win the State 4A championship and they will win it on the shoulders of the RW boys...just as they have done all year!!

...and when they do, I'm going to retire my Dr. Methusda and present it to the Myers Park team as a present for it's prediction of MP winning it since it's first prediction in November.

I think Rose will pull this one out. MP could suprise them, but as long as Rose gets a split who does MP come back with in the third game, Rose has two quality arms beyond Flye and Hodges. Another reason, if you think MP is a team of destiny well you havn't seen Rose yet, @ Fuquay down by 2 in the top of the 7th against McLaurin and Honeycutt Rose puts a 5 spot on the board and stuns the crowd. Another, it would be the story book ending to a record breaking year for Coach Vincent.
Rose in 3 games. Also, Rose is ranked 12th in the latest BA national poll. Well deserved.

Superman---I agree that Rose is more talented and should win...but the first game will decide it....and it's not like Wilson's pitching is chopped liver..the kid is 9-0!

There are rumors circulating, that wilson will not throw game 2 as expected, if woodard wins, that he will throw game 3 and be in the pen game 2, for logan smith. however if woodard loses (unlikely) wilson will throw game 2. just thought i'd throw that out for debate, personaly, i think its a good move, smith is no push over, if hes on hes scary.

I think Myers Park has to go for the sweep in the first two games. If it goes three, Rose has an incredible advantage no matter who the Mustangs pitch.

Rose has incredible depth, and can shuttle players in and out without much effect. The deeper and more athletic teams have the advantage in a long series.

Also keep in mind that Rose has played in front of large crowds all year long. A good chunk of these kids also played on national TV several times when they were in Williamsport. Bright lights and large crowds will not bother them. Most importantly, they have Coach Vincent, who, without argument, is one of the nation's finest coaches.

I really look forward to seeing Woodard and Wilson pitch against the most explosive team in the state. It's going to be fun.

the MP fans shouldnt be a problem. rose deals with loud fans everywhere. matter of fact, rose used to be the worst, with all the students sitting in the outfield. MP fans can bring the noise but in the end rose will bring home the trophy. Rose in a sweep.

    state championship series

i was lucky enough to play in the series against Rose in 1988. even though i have yet to see either team play, i will give my 2 cents worth on the series.

Should the series go the distance, pitching will be the biggest key. in '88, both teams got complete games from their starters in games 1 and 2. game one actually went 8 innings. we got lucky...their ace was injured and pushed back to game three...and he was only around 75%. of course, they did not think they would ever get to game three. once we got to him, we buried them. should this series go the distance, the team with the better #3 will have a huge advantage.

Myers Park needs to create some scoring opportunities. We did it by playing small ball...a lot of bunting and running. something they had not seen in the eastern part of the state. MP needs to find the part of the game they do best...and throw it at Rose every chance they get.

Play good defense. giving good teams 4 or 5 outs in an inning can kill anyone...especially in big games. one big inning can turn a series around.

for myers park, win game 1. rose will come in expecting to sweep. let them win game 1 and they will come at you in game 2 trying to break your backs.

lastly, play hard and do not ever quit. in a situation like this, it will haunt you for the rest of your life if you do not play your best. if this is a traditional Rose team, they will score some runs. if they put up a 4 or 5-spot in an inning, you have got to come back and answer that...even if it is just with a couple.

Coach Vincent is, in my opinion, the best coach the state has ever seen...and built the best program. i wish Myers Park luck...I am pulling for you to bring home the hardware!

    wassuuuuuuuuuuup!

Whats up. Heres what I think.

Rose will come out expecting to sweep, but MP will win, they are in a place that myers park hasnt been in a good while and wont let it slip by. And if Woodards on the ball theres no way that Rose is gonna run up the score.

    so, GO MP!

and... Rose youll have to try again next year

    yeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! im out
