I've seen Goodman in past years ... didn't get a chance to catch up with him this season ... you're right, he's a very good ball player.

There are always some very deserving players that don't make All-conference. It gotta be a tough call on the coaches, narrowing down the list. Someone is always going to be omitted.

NCBBALLFAN, I agree that there is "always" someone who gets left out, but in my opinion, these 2 players (Lackey and Goodman) stand out as 2 that SHOULD HAVE made it. Especially considering what they meant to their respective teams and how they contributed.

Everyone has an opinion,,, but I simply think that these 2 kids were no-brainers and definitely deserving of this honor...

    SW-4A won't officially announce...

until the state championship is concluded. Don't really know the reason - but that is what a SW-4A coach shared. The coaches and, probably the teams know, it's just not fully public info yet.

i agree i think both the lacky and goodman kid should of been no brainers to make the all conf selections. what about the sherrill kid from ALB, if im not mistaking, he was there ace pitcher. he threw 3 games against nwc and shut them down basicly out all 3 times, and the 2 games he got the wins were must needed games to advance to state playoffs. Also if i remember correctly he had a pretty good bat and a great glove at 3rd base

There is no rhyme or reason to this process! I congratulate the young men that got honored, but I am in agreement that they left out a lot that more than deserved to be honored also!

You're right there is no rhyme or reason to the process in the NPC All-Conference selection. If there are to be 25 players selected it would be better to have a 1st team and 2nd team. In reality there is no reference to a team. There were 4 catchers selected, for heaven's sake, that's almost 1/5 of the players selected. I agree, Lackey, Goodman, and Sherrill were over looked. Each was an important part of their teams success, you could probably substitute them for any of the players listed, but it's got to stop somewhere. It's unfortunate, I hate it for the kids, but what can you do. Congrats to the kids that made the list and to the kids that didn't, take heart in the fact that those of us who watched you perform know how deserving you are.

ballplaya00 and rcbbfan, you both make very good points. And I agree that you must "draw the line" somewhere. But in my opinion, Tyler Lackey and Jonathan Goodman were simply no-brainers to make all-conference. And yes Garrett Sherrill was tremendous down the stretch for Kannapolis, but he's only a sophomore too and I think he understands that his "time" is coming. I agree that sometimes these selections don't appear to have much rhyme or reason, but Lackey and Goodman are both seniors and have had very good careers at their respective schools. Age is just "something else" that "I" would've considered when narrowing down this list to the final selections.

But again, and don't misunderstand me, I truly congratulate those who made it,,,, I've not criticized anyone. I just think 2 were more deserving than some on the list. Just my .02.

i dont really agree with u on the age thing, i dont think it should matter the age of someone in determining who makes all conf or not. I mean sherrill pitched in 2 must win games and won them both against NWC. He also pitched in the 2nd game against mooresville in which they won 3-2 which at that point was the biggest game of the year, and a must win. I think if someone contributes to ur team that much it shouldnt matter if is a senior, junior, sophomore, or freshmen. He should be deserving of all conf. It also makes the people look bad who chose the all conf team when a guy (goodman) didnt make the all conf team and he is going to be going somewhere to college on some sort of scholarship, and also made all conf last year.....hmmmmmmmm

-not to mention both of these guys goodman and sherrill pitched against ragsdale and only allowed 5 hits each, and if im not wrong i beleive that both guys should of won those games because runs were scored on errors. And i beleive that many people thought that this ragsdale team was as good as anyone and could be considered the best team in the state throughout the year.

Tyler Lackey is a rising senior at Mooresville. I have to agree with Wufman, if a line must be drawn, then age has to be a consideration.
