These 2 teams meet for the first time tonight in Kannapolis at 7pm. Expecting a big crowd or you can listen on WEGO-AM 1410.

Concord features players from Meca-8 Conference champion Central Cabarrus and Rocky River Conference champion Mt.Pleasant,,,, while Kannapolis features players from NPC 2nd/3rd place teams Northwest Cabarrus and Kannapolis Brown. Both teams are very talented but Kannapolis may have a slight advantage with so many HS seniors and 4 college freshmen playing this summer. Another key in tonights game is that Kannapolis has already played 7 ballgames (Kann is undefeated in league play), and Concord has only played a couple games and took the last 6 days off for beachtrips.

Will we see a Josh Benton(Con) vs. Zach Ward(Kann) pitcher's duel? This should be the "first" of some great games between these 2 teams this summer.

yes both of these pitchers are going for both teams, but ill just copy and paste wat i said in the other thread

yes, i dont see anyone touching zach ward in this league. I heard that many scouts have been telling him he shouldnt be pitchin for legion and it wont make him any better pitchin against these teams. They tell him he should be playing in some wooden bat league where he can face college players and stuff like that. but zach says that he wonts to stick around for this year and help ktown win the state.

I also disagree with yall, not saying that benton isnt a good pitcher, but i just think kannapolis' bats are to strong i think this will sort of be like the rowan game, i think kannapolis will win by 7 or 8 runs. Many people told kannapolis they were gonna have a tough time against patrick adams when they faced rowan, but they ripped him pretty good, i think the same thing with happen tonite against benton

    Kannapolis-7 over Concord-4

Well Round 1 goes to Kannapolis in what was a little ugly. Winning pitcher Zach Ward was not sharp as he hit 5 Concord batters and yet he didn't even issue any bases-on-balls. He either "hit'em or struck'em out", as he scattered 5 hits and struck out 15 for his second complete game win of the young legion season. Concord's Josh Benton started strong giving up only 3 hits over the first 3 innings; however, Kannapolis touched him for 5 hits with 2 outs in the 4th to take a 5-3 lead in which they never looked back. Benton was clearly frustrated during the 4th as he didn't even back up the plate on a throw home during the inning, and he's better than that.

Both teams made a couple critical errors and didn't really look sharp defensively, but much of this can be attributed to kids just getting back from the beach. Kannapolis outhit Concord 14-5 with Marcus Smith leading the way with 3 hits, one of which was a long homerun to leftfield. Jonathan Goodman, Michael Hamilton and Nolan Patterson contributed 2 hits apiece. The 5 Concord hits were scattered among 5 different players.

Overall, I believe both of these teams will do well this summer. I'm not sure what kind of pitching Concord has after Josh Benton(that is my only question about them), but Concord looks solid everywhere else. Kannapolis has already proven to have possibly 5 solid starters on the mound and they have played solid defense (overall) too, so they must simply hit, and they have recently. Look for both of these teams to finish in the top 3-4 of their division.

Records: Kannapolis 5-0 in league (7-1 overall)
Concord 0-1 in league (1-2 overall)

Charpirates, you missed a good crowd...
