Coach --- we'll really miss you in Charlotte. You are not only one of the good coaches, you are one of the truly good guys in the coaching business -- our loss is Union County's gain.

    A couple questions --
    (1) Is Coach Hammers going with you? Aaron is an excellent coach and an even finer young man. While he's ready for a no. 1 job, I know the two of you mesh well together.
    (2) Is there a front-runner to replace you in the Indy job? Your club has a bunch of very good young players about ready to have a break out year -- it would be a great job to inherit.

Finally, on a little different track, I think we'd all enjoy it if you have the time to give us a"typical day" (or even a "typical week") in the life of a high school coach. From teaching classes, to field preparation, to lineup decisions, to watching the weather forecast, to pre-game pratice, to dragging and raking the field post-game -- it has got to be a 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. day -- and then you've got to go prepare for the next day at school. Not much time left for that young family of yours.

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, and good luck at Parkwood.

Thanks Dodger Blues, Coach Hammers is coming to Parkwood with me. I believe next years Independence will be very good too. About my typical day; it starts around 5:45 and depending on if we have a game or practice, ends as late as 11:00. I teach Three history classes and get out of school at 2:30, practice starts at 2:45. We practice until 5:30 and I'm home around 6:15 in time to eat dinner and play with my kids for an hour or two, then I prepare for class the next day and it's off to bed.

Sorry Gonzo, I posted a new thread by mistake in answering your all conference question. I told you my computer skills were lacking.

    Hi Coach,

    Some questions:

I'm curious, how many of your former players went on to play college ball? I know of several playing now.

Which of your teams did you connect to most, which were most successful?

How much did the school board gerrymandering the district hurt or help you clubs?

Fatman, There were many players to go on to college and a handful that are still playing professional baseball. I can't really say I hand one group that was the best , however, My team 3 years ago overcame tremendous obstacles to win the Conference and the Conference Tourney. They were special because we had to play 4 confernce games the last week of the season and won 3 of them. My first year at Independence we started the season 1-8 and ended up winning the tournament and playing in the quarter finals of the state playoffs, that was something too. The question about players being moved has caused the Charlotte area to be diluted a little bit , that's what makes it so incredible what Myers Park has done this year. I'm proud of Coach Deming and what they have done.

    Thanks Coach.

I hope that when you play Piedmont that they have fixed the mound. If I recall correctly, you had some games down there a few years back and one of your pitcher's spikes landed on a concrete block or brick when he tried to plant causing the foot to slide and the ball go wild.

I'm sure that the new players and families will connect with you as your Big I teams did.

Good Luck, and keep up the great work!
