Well, I'm sure there is validity to that, but if that was the case here, the Prep Board would be pretty boring and not many responses.

I remember the conversations we had with Mike Persinger at the old board (charlotte.com)...and he was very fair in his explanations, but I must tell you something.

If I remember correctly, Mike was concerned by the internet and how it affected the buying of newspapers. Well, I can assure you that many, many coaches, players, parents and fans check the scores on this website before they receive their paper.

I wish they would use us as stringers (for free) to report HS games and features because this is an area (HS sports ) that has not come close to capitalizing on a rapidly growing community. The interest in Major League sports in Charlotte is spiraling down as quickly as HS sports is rising.....just food for thought

Oh...and Mediafreak, thank you for taking the time to respond to this thread. I have spoken with langston many times about posting in here, but for some reason has chosen not to.

For you to go out of your way to explain the problems of announcing All Conference players is well appreciated. Thank you again.

i realize that, but i was talking about the average fan. the folks here are the cream of the "interested reader" crop.

i'm the same way with anything that i'm passionate about, too. if i want to know something right away about fsu, i'll check warchant.com because that's where the rabid fans are. if i want to discuss the panthers, i'll go to the panthers board here. of course, i'll check the papers' coverage, but that doesn't come out until the next day, after my interest has waned and my appetite has been sedated. the observer does a better job than most papers its' size at picking out the bigger moments and playing them up.

as i said before, if we want to turn this mutha out, we can put together "stringers" for each game for the prep games starting this fall here and post stories, stats and photos. but that's up to everyone here.

Wow, a bunch of people left out who deserved it more than a few of those on there.

Geez.....come on guys....first you fuss and whine to know who made all conference, and then, when you find out who made it, you fuss and whine because somebody didn't make it. I'm sure there are at least a dozen guys who could be substituted here, it's the same with every conference, some good players always get over looked. I know very little about the SW4A, but I feel like all the guys that were selected deserved it. Congratulations.

I agree, rcbbfan. These are some of life's hardest lessons...that life is not fair. But, if you keep working and give it your hardest and keep a positive attitude, you will succeed, even though your success may not be how you pictured it. I am sure that there's not a one of these guys who hasn't been disappointed at some time over not making some squad or team or even not getting to play baseball for the college of their dreams. But what makes a person truly successful in my eyes is that instead of whining, you go to the ballpark the next day and in Cal Ripkin's words, you give it your best because it's what you love to do.

This from one of the coaches about the selection process

    All conference selection
Gonzo, The question about "backyard poltics" in voting for all-conference is a good one. Several years ago when we were in the SW4A conference, I made a proposal to vote out in the open, no secret ballot, and we did it for a year so you could see who was getting "shafted". I believed this worked, although the problem comes in and some coaches hold grudges and some good players pay the price for it. What some fail to realize is this is a big deal to the players and it is unfair to leave off deserving players. In the MECA8 this year Coach Tyson made a proposal that to me makes the most sense; Every coach nominated there players, regardless of postion and we picked who we thought were the best 18. We were also able to vote for are own players so you were't obligated to pick a representative from each team. This, to me, was the best way to get a true all-conference team. Also, there is no doubt egos get in the way and "deals are made to protect "your "players.
