The Rose regular season roster consisted of 6 seniors and 21 juniors. They brought up 3 or 4 sophomores for the playoffs.

Their JV team carries 20 or so players and their 9th grade team carriers another 20 or so.

All told, Rose dresses about 70 players on the three teams.

Their JV team is usually just 10th graders. They play other JV teams in the east and several 1A and 2A varsity squads. I think they had one loss this year. In the last several years the most games they have lost in a year (someone correct me if my memory has failed) is about two or three.

The 9th grade team plays a JV schedule. I think they also had one loss this year.

They actually played each other in an Easter tournament. I don't know who won - don't know what dugout the coaches sat in.

9th grade teams are very common in some areas. In the stretch from Texas through Southern California, it's almost universal at the larger schools.

It requires a larger commitment in money.... you can't get away with running your baseball program on a single field unless your head coach is a master at organization.

In S.C., where there isn't any middle school ball, it's not uncommon for 7th graders to play JV High School ball and 8th graders to play Varsity, particularly at the smaller 1A & 2A schools.
