Metro, everyone I have ever talked to from Mecklenburg County who wanted to play for Hibbs has told me the same thing. He has never recruited from his own back yard. I know last year Matt Wiley from West Charlotte tried to go there and Hibbs did everything he could to stonewall Matt. There have been a number of legitimate DI prospects who wanted to play there who have been largely ignored.

There are young men in the Northern part of the county that should have recognition! This message board definitely favors South Charlotte. With the exception of a few users, it is like North Mecklenburg does not exist.

We just need to get them posting .... I have a few who contact me, but most people up in the north end of the county won't post... It does tend to give the board a one-sided view.

We encourage everybody to post...we would love to receive more feedback on what is going on in the Mecca 8...and have posted threads to try to get responses.

The fact of the matter is we receive more responses from Raleigh and Asheville then we do from Northern Charlotte. This Board is for all areas of the State, but the truth is more people have responded from South Charlotte than North.....and who's fault is that?

Maybe you can shake 'em up and get them posting because we would love to hear from them.

I was recruited by ECU which is in the same conference as UNCC, but even after the coaches knew this they weren't willing to fight for a local player....its like I would have to go 4 hours east to play in the same conference when charlotte was right here. just another example of the strange recruiting tendencys from charlotte....but, maybe I'm just a liltle biased.

I don't know the situation at UNCC or ECU, BUT ...

.. before a school will recruit you, you also have to be a good fit for that school. If your a 1st baseman, and they just signed one last fall, odds are you WON'T get recruited just to ride the bench. That's a prime example of not being a "good fit".

I attended a couple of 49er games this spring and I don't know what their recruiting needs are for next year, but they had 17 players from NC on the roster. 3 from Charlotte and Adam Floyd, a freshman from Burns HS was their starting SS. Of the 17 NC players, 6 were freshmen. They carried 27 total players on the roster. The 49er's only graduate 8 players, so that doesn't leave a lot of room for Charlotte (or NC) area players. I took this information from the "one sheet" they give out at home games.

Let's see, only 3 everyday starters hitting .300+(2 are seniors), a pitching staff with a 5.94 ERA. Havent had a winning season in how long? Either they are recruiting the wrong kids or they aren't doing the job with them after they arrive.
We have a rising senior pitcher, 10-1, .84 ERA, and 2 k's per inning that is interested in going there. Tigers clocked him at 88 in TN last Sunday. But, everyone who has talked to him in this area is discouraging him from attending UNCC. I'll be curious to see if there is any interest after state games. He is a 4.0 student and will have choices.

    mudcat,
why? pitchers have been ultra succesful at UNCC. John Maine is leading the minors in strikeouts right now if I am not mistaken and dominating. He was drafted last year. Treadway is another. Jason Stanford is 7-1 right now in AAA. should be in Cleveland after the break. If you are a pitcher, UNCC is a great place to be. they have a great pitching coach now, and the last 10 years there have been many high draft picks that were pitchers with 6 fiure signing bonuses (Treadway, Maine)

Give me this kids name. Loren is on vacation or recruiting this week, but I am emailing him these names you give me and I will call him Monday when he gets back. BTW, if someone is still unsigned at this point, it isn't just UNCC ignoring him.

Mudcat, I think you are being a little harsh. Loren in ten years, has averaged 30 wins per season. He has 300 career wins. We won several conf. championships and went to the NCAA. They went again in 98, I think. So in his 10 years he has 2 NCAA tourny appearances. The team in 98 won like 45 games. UNCC is not elite, but it is at LEAST an average major division 1 program.

FYI, $3 million dollars is currently being raised for a brand new stadium which will help recruiting. ;)
