Coach Swanson resigned as head baseball coach at Mount Pleasant high school. It was in the independent tribune today. Any ideas for who will step in? If I'm not mistaken, none of his assistants from this passed year were teachers. This could be a major blow for a school on the rise.

This could be the understatement of the week.

This is definitely "NOT GOOD" for Mt.Pleasant High School and their baseball program. The Tigers' only hope is to find another "baseball-oholic" who will devote as much time and concern for the boys, and also someone who will require the same committment from the boys. Coach Swanson didn't accept anything less than 100% committment from his players and it showed on the field. He ran a "first-class" program and he won. Coach Swanson will definitely be missed, but it is completely understandable that he simply wants to spend time with his family. We in Kannapolis wish him the very best.

Swanson has been umpiring SCBL games this summer. First time I've ever seen him behind the plate. Very consistent, and you can tell he knows what he's doing back there. The game needs more umpires like him.

Any thoughts on a replacement? I know folks around MP are hoping they make a decision soon. I know we won't get another coach in this town as good as him, but we're at least hoping to get a quality coach. Anybody know of any Charlotte guys after this job?

MP is a haul from the Charlotte area ... The traffic would be murder getting out there. It would have to be an assistant who wants a H.C. position probably.

There are some really good assistants around. One of them might "bite" on the position.

I know Mt. Pleasant hates to lose someone like Coach Swanson. He is a class act and a true Baseball Man. I've dealt with him from time to time over the last couple years and he has built a solid program. Hopefully for Mt. Pleasant, they can find someone to fill the big shoes. As far as umpires, we definitely need more Baseball Men in the umpire business.

Danny Hignight---South Meck Assistant Coach--- "The best hitting coach in the State"...according to Coach Bagwell at South.

He's a country boy...so he would love Mount Pleasant. Quite frankly, he would put in the time to continue what Coach Swanson has developed.
