....I know he is applying for another school, but he would turn on a dime to head out towards the country.

Mt.Pleasant a "COUNTRY" school??? Yep, dem country boys fer sure,,,, and they like baseball too!!!

Seriously, MPHS is located in an excellent area of Cabarrus County to raise a family, and with great baseball facilities (thanks to Coach Swanson), this would simply be a great job for any baseball coach. They shouldn't have any trouble getting a coach for this job, hopefully they'll hire a coach and not just give this job to a teacher or a coach-wannabee.

I've enjoyed talking to Gary and playing at his facility during the summer for the past 3-4 years. The guy has such a deep abiding love for the game, he just may be back after a "brief" vacation.

Don't be surprised if he resurfaces in a couple years. Where ever he is, one thing for sure ..... he'll have a contender.

Two things scare w/ Swanson's departure.

    1) The talent level drops off severely after this season. Will a good coach be willing to take that chance having to step into Swanson's shoes?

    2) MPHS is notorious for giving jobs like this one to whatever teacher is willing to do it. They were lucky to get Swanson and I worried they won't put that same effort in this time.

You guys need to get these coaches you know on the move as far as getting applications in.

An assistant down here said he called about the job, but they were planning on filling it internally, and there were no teacher positions open.

my point exactly. probably going to be some teacher who knows little to nothing about baseball. lets just hope a teaching position comes open for one of these "coaches who wants to coach" this team.

After stopping by football practice Monday one of the two biggest fears for folks from around here was confirmed. Mount hired a teacher by the name of Karicoff (sp) From what I gathered from the guys I talked with is that he has never played baseball and only spent one season as an assistant jv coach. I can't believe they wouldn't be willing to talk to qualified assistants from the Charlotte/Gastonia area due to the fact that they wanted to hire a teacher from within. Well Mount baseball could now quickly be back on the decline. I just hope he hires quality assistants or coaxes Swanson out of retirement to help him.
