    Games started Monday night.

Caldwell County beat Cherryville in a great game 4-0. Guys, I know I am partial, but I cannot see how any 2 programs are better in NC year in and year out. It is art to watch these two teams work.

I strongly recommend if you get an oppertunity to watch a game in this series to come out. Game two in Granite Falls tomorrow. I would think Chris Mason would be on the hill for Cherryville since
    they are down 1-0.

Pineville Post 337 vs. Charlotte Post 262 4th round Legion play-offs began on Monday night (7/14) at South Meck High.

    Pineville 13
    Charlotte 2
    F/7 Innings
    WP- Vartanian

Game was close until the 5th inning when Pineville scored 6 runs. Charlotte could have been a little tired from their late night (early morning) game from Sunday night with the Gaston Post. Tuesday night's game at Myers Park should be more competitive. Game 2 of the series at Myers Park tonight (7/15) @ 7:00 pm. Pineville leads the 7 game series 1-0 thus far.

South, I think that is an understatement. First you drive to Ashbrook, get loose, go in out of the rain, go out get loose again, start the game 35 minutes late, play for 10 minutes, then sit for 1 hour, then discuss for 20 minutes what to do next, then get in your cars and drive the 15 miles or so to Cherryville, then get loose again, finally restart the first inning at 10:06 PM. Finish the game at 12:20 am Monday morning, pack up, load up and drive 45 minutes back to South Charlotte, hoping to get in bed by 1:45 or so. Then many of these young men are either in summer school, working or playing fall football (read - summer practice at 8:00 am). I know we parents were tired and all we did was drive and sit.

Gonzo, you make a very good point about those boys being tired. So let me ask a legitimate question. Why did the Area 4 semis start on Monday giving those teams little or no rest? I can see why one team that played well into the night before would be really tired even the next evening. Why couldn't the Area 4 wait a couple days?

Our Area 3 semis between Kannapolis/S.Rowan and E.Randolph/Burlinton don't start until tomorrow (Wed.7/16). Just curious.

    Game Locations

Not sure about the Eastern series... but Caldwell/Cherryville is home/away/home/etc. Game one was at Cherryville (Cherryville)High School. Game two tonight is at Caldwell (MS Deal Stadium, Granite Falls). Tomorrow will be back to Cherryville.

Not knowing where anyone would be driving from, best I can explain to get to Cherryville is South on 321 to Lincolnton Hwy 73 to hwy 150 and that takes you to the school.

To get to Deal is North on 321 to Granite Falls and Valley Chev. Turn Left at intersection then left at the next light and that will take you to MS Deal (behind Granite Falls Middle School).

Wuf, not sure. Clewis (262 coach) was quoted in Gaston Gazette wondering the same thing. But for whatever reason they decided we had to finish Sunday night. We have a bunch of Peabodies running Area 4 anyway.

    Re: Game Locations

Baseline - coming from Charlotte or Gastonia area to Cherryville, take 321 north to 279 west. (This is the Dallas/Cherryville exit). Take 279 west into Cherryville (about 11-12 miles). Easiest way is stay on Main Street (after 279 turns to right) to Depot Street. I think it is three traffic lights. Turn right across railroad tracks and field will be in front of you.

Just a thought...I would think that why the Pineville vs. Charlotte game was pushed to play would be obvious?!? With all the rain that the South has been getting this year, putting the game off one more night when you can get a game that night would be the best deal as it might be raining the next night as well which would delay everything even the more!? Just a thought...

Area IV is a best of 7 series

while there is some merit to the more nefarious speculation, the old squid just looks at the calendar. One has to plan for a 7 game series. The championship round is supposed to begin 7/21 (it is different in other Areas, e.g. Area I is a 2 out of 3 format). If the Area IV semi-finals didn't begin Monday, you'd have an automatic dble header slated for the weekend to get 7 games in by the following Monday.

It looks like six one way, half a dozen the other. At first glance the team with the most depth has an advantage, but a team with the most heart can still win! It's baseball and anything can happen.
