Tampa Bay Devil Rays Spring Training Complex, St. Petersburg, FL, 7/25-27

Regional and/or state teams were to compete for the championship while playing in front of over 100 colleges and Pro-Scouts. Anyone have any feedback or reports from the 2003 National Battle of the States I? Listed below were the players on the Team Carolina roster. Also, anyone know where any of these Team Carolina players are from and if there were any other Charlotte area players that played on any of the other team rosters participating in this particular Blue-Grey Classic V event in FL?

    Team Carolina Roster:
    Ryan Pflum
    Kyle Eudy
    Billy Celtruda
    Josh Chaney
    Todd Eberhart
    Jason Webb
    Kris Ty Gwyn

    Jon Cook
    Chris Zachodzki
    Will Irwin
    Shane Earnheart
    Michael Bowman

Just curious...this is a 16-under team...right? Not the team that Coach 44 coaches?

    Chief:

I was under the impression that the National Battle of the States I teams were made up of 16 & 17 year-old players (2004 & 2005) for the Blue-Grey Classic V event in FL but I could be mistaken. I believe that Coach 44 is a coach this year for Team North Carolina which is playing in the Blue-Grey Classic I event in Wake Forest, NC, scheduled for 8/13-15. Maybe Coach 44 will be on-line soon to confirm or not?!?

2003 National Battle of the States I Summary:

The second annual National Battle of the States was held at the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Spring Training Complex on July 25, 26 & 27th in St. Petersburg, Florida. Great weather, great baseball, and big time college recruitment.

The tournament was won by Team West Florida, who, in recognition of their victory, will wear the World Series size rings of National Champions. Team Miami was the runners-up.

The Most Valuable Player was Scott Beckwith, who was awarded an engraved rock maple bat from the Phoenix Bat Company in recognition of his on field accomplishment.
