For those playing fall ball, the fall is the time to really work on getting stronger and quicker as well as work on their game. The fall season ends the end of October. At that time they will actually take a break from baseball, but continue on conditioning and on building their bodies for strength and power. In January they start back with throwing programs, etc. because most of the high schools are playing by the end of February.

For those who are concerned about people getting burned out and playing to much over the fall, high school coaches should be the first place to look, workouts for south have been full stride for a week, and i rember when neville was at providence he organized scrimmages during the fall. Dont blame the coaches, there is a lot of pressure on them to win, but maybe they should back down on what they are doin

    ABSOLUTELY!

Do your research. Anybody who has ever played the game at the NEXT level will tell u the same thing! It grows old period regardless! YET the passsion will always remain the SAME- the "high" from making a great defensive play and a solid base hit ! Wins and losses just all seem to run in to one another and become secondary, while a player gets overwhelmed and if not possessed on their "individual" game and their streaks and slumps! See what coaches are lettin their kids in hs enjoy just that the "high school" experience while the others aren t?? Experience that is the bottom line................. good post statefan-I agree!

that's why our guys play on a fall team that only plays on weekends and a few tournaments. they will practice 1 time a week. this way the high school coach doesn't have to have workouts, and avoid the burnout. they are playing, having fun, and still getting better. the high school coach doesn't put any pressure on the kids, but is available for video review etc. any thoughts???

Thanks to Coach Deming and Coach Bicknell at Myers Park for making the high school experience even better than expected! It takes a special coach(and person) to sacrifice a little control in favor of maintaining a contented squad and in my opinion these two gentlemen did just that! I don't believe that the "burn-out" comes as quickly when the motivation comes from within the players themselves. Good luck in 2004!!!
