As of 1:00, up the road a bit from Kinston in Roanoke Rapids, they still have power. Lots of wind and rain...but power!

    Update,

It seems the worst is over for New Bern and Craven Co. I haven't had opportunity to drive around town, but local tv stations report about half the town is out of power. Ours just came on at 4:40 PM. We have some flooding along the river front, and some gusty winds still around.

My neighbor celebrated the arrival of his sixth grandchild today, a girl, so he's been out on the roads going to and from the hospital. He tells me most of what he has seen is relatively minor, but he didn't go down to the riverfront.

North of us hasn't been so fortunate. In Pamlico Co., there are reports of houses flooded, one report of a house floating down river, cars trapped in rapidly rising waters, and farther north, the town of Oriental is flooded. Have heard there is much damage on the Outer Banks and Cedar Island, but don't know the extent of this.

I am amazed that power is on here......
