Who are the worst coached football programs in NC?

As far as western NC........
1. West Caldwell- By far pathetic!
2. Cherryville- Yes they are some atheletes in Cherryville
3. McDowell- A very underacheiving program
4. Newton- Conover- should be much better!
5. Bunker Hill- Like Newton-Conover

I know these are all Unifour area schools and I know they are more out there that you fans wish to note but I base these 5 schools on talent level and severe underacheivement...if they are any question marks on this list its Newton-Conover cause Bassel did have them in the State Championship game a few years back but my Grand-mother could have took em that far with the atheletes they had, look at them now, should be in much better shape than they are... You West Caldwell Styron backers, Look at the miserable shape that program is in! Can't say I didn't tell you so! I knew it was coming and even last year I said it will all show this year... I have never seen a high school football team so unconditioned, undisciplined and fundamentally poor in regard to the talent level they have. This program has no direction! Up until this year it actually had direction....DOWN...LOL.... now could it possibly be any worse, getting drubbed by weak ass teams in a weak ass conference? Don't think so!

 

When it comes to McDowell, the reason its underachieving is because of coaches being in the wrong areas.

Head Coach David Riggs is a defensive-minded coach and could do exceptionally well as a Defensive Coordinator. The current one, Carson Gowan, was a good defensive lineman back during his playing days but can not run a defense to save his life. The leading tackler is a safety for crying out loud! The past years and currently when Gowan led the defense, the defense was next to last or dead last in the Nw4A. When Henry Weaver (now DC at North Buncombe) was in charge, he was 2nd or tops in defense in all catagories. Throw Gowan out and place Riggs as the DC.

In Riggs' place, I would recommend somone like Tim McMahon of Freedom. From what I've seen of Mac, he's gets the best out of his kids and is what a Head Coach is supposed to be. If McDowell couldnt get him, perhaps David Elder would be what the Titans' need. If McDowell got him, then there would be a catfight of girls' basketball coaching or I think it would be a Dream Team of Mike Silver, Elder, and Phyllis Davis. Anyways, he won a State Championship with Hickory in 1996 and turned the program around from mediocrity to a perinnial powerhouse. I think with Mac or Elder, the same would happen to McDowell. During the early 90's, McDowell was one of the premier teams in the Nw4A and was making noise statewide. But until Gowan and Riggs' remain where they are, the McDowell program is digging itself a very deep grave.

Well West Caldwell just needs a complete overhaul.... Too much talent at this school to suffer like it does!

 

I agree with everything you said with the exception of Newton Conover. Nick Bazzle has taken that team to a state championship and lost by an extra point. Good football coach.

As for Styron at WC I say you are premature. This year the warriors suck, but have been very good the last three. I give him another year and ask this same question next year at this time.

 

I hate to bring up that talent factor again but Newtons team that battled for the 2-a title was exceptionally talented, I have even seen them in action once this year and I noticed a lot of the same problems with WC.... the talent is much better than the underacheivement.... So now lets speak of being premature on the Styron issue.... Case number one= Styron benifited somewhat in his first three years from Hoggards weight program but still his teams underacheived their talent level... Even last years team with exceptional talent was ruined by some terrible coaching.... especially the change in offense and omg that terrible toss sweep call that costed that Pisgah game! Go ahead and give Styron another year, they'll not be any better.... His program has no direction nor interest and now they cant even get the best atheletes to even participate.... Right now this program is 6 feet under and by this time next year with Styron at the helm it will be 12 feet under!.Do you see any direction at all even with the JV program.... Staying with Styron is a hopeless cause but who really cares about WC football anymore, its just a hickup on the way to BB season. When you struggle to win 3 games in a league as pathetic as the MVC, you'd might as drop the program and pursue being a soccer power...LOL... I mean its just amazing at the weakness of this miserable conference.... Some of these teams would have trouble reaching .500 playing a junior varsity schedule!

 

I remember that toss sweep that the RB fumbled last year in the Pisgah game last year. I don't think that was a bad call. There was about three mintues left in the game. The warriors were trying to run out the clock and were having no success running trap plays, belly's, or Iso's. They ran toss sweep and the RB just plain dropped the ball. I don't think thay was a bad call considering the lack of success running the ball elsewhere. Moreover, throwing the ball isn't an option when you are protecting a lead. A simple toss sweep should be a relatively safe play. I say that was just one of those things. I'd give him another year. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yes, the warriors should be doing better in this weak assed conference-------enough said! You know my stance on the players, coaches, parents, and community-------all are equally worthless and counterproductive.

Warrior BB will not be nearly what it has been in the past. I think that Forbush and Wilkes Central will both greatly challenge or over take the warriors this year. Dannyboy will have his hands full this season.
