Realignment

Anyone know how many teams are gonna be 4A next year when they do the realignment? According this site, there are currently 83 teams in 4A now.

According to current enrollment, these are the teams that will be on the 3A/4A cusp depending on how many they decide to take into 4A.

75- N Nash
76- Clayton
77- AC Reynolds
78- C Cabarrus
79- W Charlotte
80- Garinger
81- E Gaston
82- D Byrd
83- S Durham
84- Sun Valley
85- Ashbrook
86- Harding
87- N Davidson
88- Westover
89- Hillside
90- E Rowan

I'm sure the cut off will be somewhere between #80 and #85

If that's the case, Crest (#62) will move back up to 4A and Olympic and Waddell will move down to 3A.

Roberson, Hickory, Asheville and Tuscola have little to no chance of being moved up to 4A.

 

Roberson and Hickory have more chance at getting into 4A because of the possibilities I stated in the other post. If Hickory dont get in, Roberson might to the Northwestern 4A because Alexander Central is all but a lock to goto the Central Piedmont 4A (Due to them only having 5 teams and AC is the farthest east school in the NW4A).

 

I was under the assumption that the decision if a school goes in to 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A is determined only by the number of students. If the location of the school (geography) is a factor, that seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

 

How It's Done

Take all the public schools that play football and divide by 4, then the head count is used to determine the dividing line between each. Divide each class in half for football playoffs 4A,4AA and so on.

 

I think he's talking about a possible 4A/3A Northwestern Conf., which would definitely include Hickory.

According to the new-release by the NCHSAA, the current ADM#'s are the ones that will be used in the next realignment with preliminary conferences being drawn up by next june. Final appeals by teams will last until november 04', I think?

There will be no 3 tiered conferences, but there's a good likelyhood that there will be some split conferences next year with teams from two classifications included, so a possible NWC which includes 4A and 3A schools is very possible, and I too believe that Crest will probably move back to the NWC, but Crest fans would have to confirm or deny that?

Nonetheless, I think the next realignment will provide a few surprises as usual!

 

Coach Kirby said that right now they would be going to the NW4A.

 

Well you can bumb everyone up 1 because #24 Western Harnett will be just about split into half with the opening of a new high school in the county.
