Its me...Nw4A_Pride from Charlotte.com, but I figured I added my two cents into this.

The way I see realignment happening is that Crest, T.C. Roberson, and Hickory are pretty much in because Crest is 5th, Roberson is 11th and Hickory is 31st in 3A. Also, Asheville is 26th Tuscola is 29th which could make the process very interesting. But here's how my take on the process will go in certain scenarios.

    1) Crest, Roberson, and Hickory join the current seven members of the Nw4A and bolster it to a 10 team conference. Reynolds, Roberson, McDowell, Freedom, and Watauga make the Western Division while Alexander Central, Crest, East Burke, Hickory, and South Caldwell make up the Eastern Division.

    2) The Nw4A gains Asheville and Tuscola as well as Crest, Roberson, and Hickory and turns the Nw4A into the ACC...I mean a 12-team superconference. The West has Reynolds, Roberson, Asheville, McDowell, Freedom, and Tuscola while the East has Alexander Central, Crest, East Burke, Hickory, South Caldwell, and Watauga.

    3) Because of the numbers and the possibilities, The Nw4A will lose Reynolds back to the Mountain Athletic Conference because of Asheville, Roberson & Tuscola's jump to 4A. These four schools will split the MAC into the 3A/4A Conference they've had for many years. Enka, who is 3A is 39th and may make the jump to 4A themselves, but unlikely. Even with the Addition of Crest and Hickory, the Nw4A is still an 8 team conference.

    4) Because of the loss of South Iredell (who lost half of its attendance to form the new Lake Norman High School) who went to 2A and dropped out of the Central Piedmont 4A, who now only has 5 teams....Alexander Central is the farthest east school in the Nw4A and schedules games against teams like South Rowan, Davie County, etc. The Nw4A is then reduced to 7 as Crest, East Burke, Freedom, Hickory, McDowell, South Caldwell, and Watauga are left.

The way I see it is that Roberson, Asheville, and Tuscola are in at 4A and will get Reynolds. Alexander Central will be sent to the CP4A and the Nw4A's net gain/loss is an even ZERO.

I would say if it was possible to had a eight, nine or ten team conference all across the state then this would make things interesting. That way you would have a "true' conference champ and the win/lost record would reflect common teams played.

As it is now the only teams played in conference are the only ones most schools have in common. ............but I guess this makes things interested !!!!!!!!!!

If they use the latest ADM numbers to determine things and I think they will, then it looks like A.C. Reynolds will be staying in the NW4A because Roberson and Asheville are staying among the ranks of 3A. As long as Reynolds is the only 4A school in the mountains, they won't be returning to the MAC. So if they stay, then I don't see anybody else moving in, except possibly Crest.

So, that pretty much destroys my plan for a split 4A/3A conference that would allow Hickory to get back in there with all the old rivals. Dang!

So, now the alternatives for HHS are these: 1) keep the SWFoothills Conf. essentially the way it is now (minus Crest) and add a team (who I don't know...) OR

    2) go with the mixed 3A/2A Catawba/Caldwell Co. league which we would thoroughly dominate (with possible competition from Bandys or maybe West Caldwell).

    Any other ideas?

Even though Crest wants back in the NW4A conference, I could still see the remote possibility of there being a split 3A/4A involving Crest, East Gaston, Hunter Huss going 4A, and Kings Mtn, Burns, South Point being 3A.

That would leave RS, Hickory, St Stephens, Fred T. Foard, North Gaston, Forestview, Ashbrook

But look at the current ADM figures, which I'm told will be used to determine the next realignment...

    Crest 1,537

    East Gaston 1,432

    Ashbrook 1,419

    Hickory 1,295

    Kings Mountain 1,270

    Burns 1,225

    Fred T. Foard 1,220

    St. Stephens 1,206

    Forestview 1,203

    R-S Central 1,121

    South Point 1,096

    North Gaston 1,070

    Hunter Huss 1,021

Ashbrook is a candidate for moving up to 4A along with Crest and East Gaston...

well, with that being the case, move Ashbrook to the split conference, Huss would be 3A in the split conference. 3-4A teams and 4-3A teams in one conference.

The Hickory conference would be a six team conference.
