Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you have said. I just find it unbelieveable that Freedom is even in this situation. They have too much talent to be in this position.

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
ACR wins tonight (Feb. 4), not much of a suprise, as they take out Alexander Central 63-33. Balanced scoring from the Lady Rockets tonight, Sydney Alexander had 17, Michelle Bennett came off the bench to score 10, then Brianna Worley, Kendra Wright, and Alex Thompson all had 7, and Freshman Amanda Whitaker finished with 6. After the first quarter the Lady Rockets really controlled the game. The score was 12 to 12 after one, but it was all ACR after that, as ACR only gave up 21 points the rest of the game. Reynolds rested their starters most of the second half as they have another game tomorrow night (Feb. 5) against Watauga, at home. On another note, congrats to the Rockets MEN team as they won their first conference game, a 84-73 win over Alexander Central. Aaron Collazo finished with 31.

Mcdowell is at South Caldwell Friday. Wondering what everyones thoughts on this one are. I know it is tough to play at South but will that be enough to get them a victory over Mcdowell. I saw the first game and SC has improved some since then but with that and being at home I just don't think they have enough for Mcdowell. I'm picking Mcdowell by 8. Still an upset here wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure the Reynolds girls will be pulling for SC as that would help them in the standings as they too have to play South but that game is in Ashville

yeah it should be a good game. McDowell cannot afford to come out sluggish in the first half against the Spartans, or they could get an early jump on the Lady Titans, just like Reynolds did to McDowell. McDowell also needs to get tougher on the boards. Aimee Kiser had her best game of the year against East Burke, that needs to continue. The bench for McDowell also needs to step up. Bruington has been playing well the last couple game, Revis needs to keep up the aggressive defense. And Whtiney Mace, who saw playing time against East Burke could give good minutes to keep the starters fresh as the game and as the season goes on. I predict McDowell to win, but I don't think the margin will be that big, I predict less than 10 points.

Honestly, McDowell will handle South Caldwell. It will be a fight, but McDowell knows how to win and will win. It will come down to the 4th quarter and the Lady Titans will take a 10 point win. I think McDowell will not let anything happen to them, they want the Feb. 13 meeting with ACR to mean something, and the same goes for ACR. Should be a fun night!

mcdowell is the better team, but has some weaknesses... south is riding high right now and has to be running on some adrenaline after finally beating freedom... they definitely could pull the upset, but i too, feel that in the end, mcdowell will come out on top... depth could be a factor, and south doesn't have the quality subs that mcdowell does... if mcdowell gets a full court game going with a quick tempo, south will probably fall short towards the end...

should be a great game though, and honestly could go either way... but mcdowell consistantly beats the teams they are supposed to beat... good coaching, and good discipline... they should prevail...

    what if

Lets say mcdowell defeats south caldwell and then loses to acr, does that knock freedom out of the playoffs or what would have to happen to elimanate the lady patriots.

McDowell and Reynolds has nothing to do with Freedom. Here are the two scenarios for Freedom to somehow miss the state playoffs.

    1. Freedom would have to finish in 5th place. They are currently in 4th place, two games ahead of East Burke. If East Burke were to move ahead of Freedom at the end of the regular season, and Freedom did not win the conference tourney, they would be out.

    2. If Freedom was to finish 4th in the conference, but a team lower than them were to win the conference tourney, then Freedom would be out.

    3. If Freedom and another team were to tie for 4th place, then which team that advances the farthest in the conference tourney would get the playoff seed. In other words, with the way the conference tourney is set up, those two teams would meet in the quarterfinal matchup anyway. Therefore, that quarterfinal game would determine the playoff seed.

Those three scenarios are the only way that Freedom could not make the playoffs.

all of the above is true... however, here is a little addition to that scenario...

freedom has to lose the next 3 games to end up tied for 4th, and east burke has to win all of their remaining games...

freedom has alexander central tomorrow night... if they win, there is no way a tie for 4th will exist...

so, there is a slight, slight chance of a tie, but if freedom gets the job done tomorrow night, then they have 4th locked up, and can only improve...

when they win tomorrow night (yes, WHEN), then it would take east burke, watauga, or alexander central winning the conference tourney to put freedom out of the playoffs...

take all that into consideration, and i think you will find freedom playing in the post-season one more time...

    job not secure

Bigdan, you make a valid point about somebodys job being insecure at freedom. I know the pressure marsha crump had put on her when she lost to McDowell and this has been a big letdown year for the lady patriots. Have you found out how serious tara tate is injured.
