Well it's about time for softball and I would like to hear some thoughts. Here are mine.
From what I know Alexander, South Caldwell, and AC Reynolds will be the class of the field again this year. I think Reynolds lost the least to graduation last year and SC lost the most with Alexander in the middle somewhere. With that said AC Reynolds, who finished 2nd last year to South Caldwell should be the preseason favorite. Still Alexander should have a decent team with a good pitcher from last year coming back and a couple other good players returning. Although SC lost some good players to graduation last year they still will be tough with a good pitcher and a couple key players returning. Word is they have a couple young players that are going to help alot. I look for this to be the most competitive year ever in the nw4a. Let's hear about some other teams I don't know much about them. good luck to everyone

NW 4A is a weak league

Take away Alexander in the years previous to 2002 and you will see a league that has won a post-season game in forever. In fact, South lost to Myers Park last season at home. South was the conference champion and Myers Park a 2nd seed from Charlotte. Myers Park pitcher struck out 20 in the 7 innings. AC Reynolds got killed in their post season show in a 5 inning game. An early 1st round exit in the playoffs is in the mix for the three teams from the NW 4A. There is not a legitimate pitcher in the conference and only Krohn from AC and Pritchard from South are top line players.

wow......one: after 2002, it takes time and patience(its only '04)
two: charlotte conferences have some of toughest teams in the state...IMO the best. Pitcher from MP, Merthia O'Connor is one of the states top pitchers(allstate, summer team accomplishments, D1 signee) so striking out 20 isnt surprising or uncommon in hs ball and even travel ball!

three: pitchers in the conference are good, experienced and extremely hard workers and its apparent your hating but hope you have a change of heart this season. I do know AC pitcher is working and developing nicely and will have her team in position to win alot of games this season. She is working on ball movement and placement, limiting her pitching mistakes(summer and fall helps to eliminate this), has a quality change up and usable in most situations and she is just a sophomore. Hard to believe with your screename......you have missed this but its early!
four: Krohn and Pritchard are easy to spot................you have missed alot of other good ones in the NW4A and hope others here will drop some names to perhaps enlighten us.

    :p

I am just curious, since you normally come down hard on AC and now the conference, teams and position players..........are you really like this with everyone or just this MB(message board) readers?? do you play/or a parent of one that is part of a team?

AC Reynolds played Hopewell in their first round game, the team that went on to win the state championship. Also, there's only been one potseason since the time you've mentioned. I'm sure you could find some other conferences that were knocked out after the first round.

I could get on here and say what the cougars are capable of doing and what the other schools may have but in escence nobody really knows until the next couple of months what will play out. I rather like the fact that nothing is expected from AC this year. That will play in our favor. As for pro you must be a disgruntled AC and NW4A hater. I know from last year that AC Reynolds, SC (from what I hear), and AC will have great pitching this year. Legitimate hah, how many pitches have you thrown yourself. Any girl willing to practice year round, take the pressure of the mound (and the critics) and try to place a 12 inch ball in certain spots consistently is more than legitimate. Some girls do excel more than others and some could if they had the support of the team. I will predict 2 things for AC. 1. Leah Krohn will have her best year yet!! 2. Our non-conference schedule is as tough as they come which we'll prepare the girls for the usually tough conference. Oh, yeah Pro just who do you support in fastpitch this year so we can gauge you're knowledge this year.

    Go Cougars!!

My team is Alexander, but I realize the reality of the situation. ACFAN,Your daughter is on the team and may pitch year round along with playing all three sports. She is fine young lady who should be commended for for work ethic. She can't help that her Dad is talked about more than her pitching though. My daughter says you are the main topic of discussion at the lunch table. I am the NW 4A biggest fan, but it is like pulling for the underdog now. We are out-matched to the larger schools. we can talk about work ethic and all this dedication, that is great, but I am just dealing with the facts. No one in our conference other than AC has won a playoff game other than Crest SEVERAL years ago. And that was because of CFBall's daughter, now I know talent and she had it! The facts are facts and I know we may have several players step up and play well, but the two I mentioned earlier are the only Major players in the league. We could add the AC 3rd baseman from last season, but those stats were a little baised, don't you agree ACFAN. NW 4A is the wekest in the West and the stats prove it. This is not my opinion, but the facts. Go AC, win the state, but we had better have some players move in.

    Be surprised

I had to jump in here and at least talk about AC Reynolds, they have pretty much the same team back from last year and they should prove very competative this year. Their pitching should be strong maybe not the likes of Ervin but how many pitchers are there in the state of that caliber. Reynolds was just intimidated by Hopewell and it showed. They were a better team than that and just the experience of playing in the playoffs last year will go a long ways this year. I would prefer this forum be about the teams and the players but I guess its hard for some to keep the personal issues out. I am just looking forward to warmer weather and the start of softball in the mountains. Good Luck to NW4 this year and especially AC Reynolds.

Well pro I hope that what they say about me is nice. I always thought the girls sat at lunch and talked about boys.I believe all of my props have been for the players that play the game not the fans watching. But sticking to the topic I believe this year will prove to be an exciting year for all conferences since so many of the top teams from last year are considered to be in building stage(which always opens up spots for great players yet to be used). Never said NW4A was the strongest but I am sure they can compete. Even AC's last playoff was out in 1st round no use in bashing other teams that don't succeed to make the next step. Oh by the way I don't try to hide and call someone out on here, be nice if you are going to do it is to come out from behind the bush. Good luck to all of the NW4A teams and especially the Cougars!!!

And by the way I think any player that reads this forum and fans of NW4A would like to know the definition of LEGITIMATE anything in your eyes since you're the pro! I thought it was always an honor just to be a part of a team not having to worry about being legit. Write back and let us know!

    GO COUGARS!!!!!

I think it will be a very interesting year for ACHS. If all of the parents can support the girls together like we (and the coaches) expect the girls to play;you know, as a TEAM; then we will have an awesome year!!!! We have some very athletic girls that have played fastpitch and travel ball for years. The girls will be very competative. They will play as a team and get the job done. Let's support them as a team!

The juniors moving to the varsity fastpitch will only add to the team. Remember, they have won the JV conference for the past two years at least.

Let's all get together, support the girls, and have an unforgettable season! I can't wait!

    I hear ya!

I say crank it up at Central Park! I know the juniors are chomping at the bit to show what they got. It is you're time ladies, practice hard, play hard and have fun because you have two years to get it done!!!!!!!! Two and half weeks til Forbush come on sunshine. I wish you girls at AC all the best!!
    GO COUGARS!!

P.S. CFball, with all of the realignament talk and Burke building a new hs and Crest maybe not joining back up nw4a what kind of scenario does that leave and the time frame for this to hit the fan.
