If you look at New Bern's lineup from last year and compare it to this years you won't see much of a difference. They started only 2 seniors last year and have improved in those areas this year other than losing the bat of Kenny Flythe. Junior Patrick Ball will be replacing him at short stop. Pat is an outstanding defensive player but is a little suspect at times at the plate. Also Juniors are Mike O'connor and Todd Seymour who are two unbeleivable outfielders. The only question in the outfield is who will play the third outfield position. Brinson Fuller showed pretty good hitting ability last year at DH and may end up in that 3rd position. Returning in the infield will be juniors Matt Sanders and Adam Warren, and also sophomore David Towarnicky. Sanders has a strong bat while Adam Warren will be one of the best pitchers in the state over the next couple years. David Towarnicky is a solid first baseman that hardly ever makes an error and has some great pop off his bat.Ben Fuller (catcher) can up his avg. from last year at the clean up spot New Bern will have no trouble making the playoffs out of the Big East. As said by niners dad thier problem will be in finding that #2 pitcher. Look out for the bears in 2004.

    Great post!!!!

...but it won't surprise us....Smitty is doing a great job down there and most people in the know realize, that Adam Warren is one of the best '05's around.

Hope you guys go deep in the playoffs...

I posted back in November that I thought New Bern would break into the top-10 in the state ....

It's absolutely NO SURPRISE to us. I expect that David Towarnicky will settle nicely into the role as the #2 guy as the season progresses.

Welcome aboard hotcorner04! Great to have some additional posts from the far east. Adam Warren is without a doubt one of the top 05's! He played with Impact this past fall. Good luck to New Bern!

I appreciate the welcome and messages as well. I did though see the preseason rankings that were put out by Impact today and was a little surprised to see Conley ahead of New Bern. I don't mean to sound too bias but I was wondering if any of you knew how these rankings were based. New Bern split with Conley last year and only lost one in extra innings after being up most of the game. I was also wondering what Hoggard has this year. Not saying they shouldn't be ranked #2 because i don't know who they lost or gained this year. I was just wondering what they have. Again i appreciate it fellas and I commend you on the board. Oh and I was wondering if anyone knows who hoggard has thier seond game of the year if anyone knew.

The closest games to Kinston are the ones at home. The biggest one will be the first conference game against Rose on Friday March 26. Its always a close game with them at home and this year we think we have the team to get a win out of it.... Also is Hoggard on Tuesday March 30. Did your roomate play baseball? Hope to see you out there

I hope New Bern lights up the east region. It's about time baseball got the respect it deserves! There is a hilarious story about Matt Sanders from his first baseball camp when he was about 7 or 8 yrs old... something about a coach, a coach's daughter, a wink and a smile! Great kid! Adam Warren is a fine young man, too. Good luck Coach Smith!
