    Openning games

The first week of the regular season schedule (for the small number of teams that have responded so far) still gives us some great early matchups. You wish we had a Webcast channel so people could tape the games and everyone could watch them. Here's an example from "Opening Tuesday" on 3/2.

    St. Stephens at Alexander Central
A really good 4A/3A matchup. Matt Payne will start his senior campaign up at ACHS. The St. Stephens team has played tough over the last few years. ACHS is (IMHO) easily a sweet-16 team pre-season in 4A.

Fort Mill (SC) at Charlotte Christian
Michael Najaka, Reid Fronk and company take on Fort Mill with Tommy Baldridge and Jason Haynes. These two teams are probably down a notch from last year but it should be a great quality matchup. CC is the defending state champs in CSIAA, but have to work this year to get past Wesleyan.

    McDowell at East Rutherford
Chad Flack and company invite 4A McDowell with Michael Taylor to play. This is a good battle of two senior pitchers. McDowell road Taylors arm into the playoffs last year and hit the ball well. ER is ER. They've won 20 games in each of the past 10 years. What a barn-burner.

    Person at JF Webb
Coach Evans Pac-6 squad travels to Five-County 3A opponent Webb. We need more reports from this part of the state.

    South Meck at North Meck
Two junior laden squads with talent open the season against each other. Both teams are loaded with junior pitching that has been varsity tested. This matchup may ride on who has the better game between UNC bound Kyle Shelton and the state's best thief on the bases last year (41/42), Michael Cavasinni.

    Chapel Hill at Orange
Josh Horton, Daniel Hargrave and company will host the young talented bunch from Chapel Hill. Last year, this would have been a conference game, so the teams know each other very well. Orange is one of my Pre-season top-4 picks in 3A. Horton is ranked in the Top-100 players in the nation.

    Green Hope at Wakefield
Green Hope will be riding the strong RHP arms of Kory Judd and Alan DeRatt this season with a strong team. Wakefield answers with LHP standout Jesse Lewter and Alex Burt. This is a great early matchup. The difference may be the catcher in this game with Newton shifting the advantage (ever so slightly) to Green Hope.

Person vs Webb: Will be a very interesting opener for Person This year. We return 2 Senior Starters from last year. Jeremy Thompson's Webb Warriors will be well prepared and if RHP Bryant White is not playing basketball it could be a long day for the Rockets who lost our #1 & 2 pitchers to college baseball (Patrick Bowes - Campbell, and Chad Emory - Rockingham CC) and a very solid catcher - (Sam Martin - Mt. Olive)

Chapel Hill vs Orange - could be a barn burner as both are quality programs and always play each other close. 2 former PAC-6 rivals going at it hard!!

Green Hope vs Wakefield - Playoff type game as season opener!! WOW!! Don't forget about RHP/INF Josh Dowdy who transferred from Wake Forest - Rolesville. HE can bring it!!

Talk bout tough scheduling... WakeField and Western Aklamance back to back to back After that stretch, I should know alot about our team!!

how much pitching do you need ?

At the end of March, Northeast Guilford will take on 4-A Northwest Guilford, 4-A Page, and Glenn all back to back. 2 weeks later, in a 11 day stretch they will play Southwest Guilford, Eastern Guilford, Southern Guilford,Ragsdale, and Southeast Guilford. No cup cakes there ! Quality pitching is a must, but it will take quantity to get us thru this stretch. Every kid on the team might have to throw before its over.

On March 3, West Rowan will travel to Unionville to play Piedmont. This should be a good game, a rematch of the game that ended West's season last year. I know a few Falcons that are looking forward to redeeming themselves from the good, old fashioned butt kickin' the Panthers gave them last year. It should be a great game to watch. Good luck to all.
