    Seeking better understanding

Congratulations to the young men selected for this honor. I am curious though what attributes a 5-8, 155 lb. Sophomore possesses that garners such recognition. I do not know this player, but due to his age and lack of remarkable size, I'm curious.

I must assume he's blazing fast, hits very well, has a father that's 6 ft. something or a tall mom with athletic pedigree that allows Impact to project this player so favorably.

    Can someone enlighten me?

Someone at Impact has obviously seen him. It's their opinion the kid can play. Chris Engle is the same size. Would you also need to read his pedigree? I doubt Chris was any bigger than 5'8" his soph. year.

This 5'8 kid plays like he is 6'2! I have seen him many times. I have mentioned him several times on this board as one of the best 06's in the state. He is fast and has a very good bat. He hit leadoff on one of the strongest teams in the state last year as a freshman. His first start on the mound he had 10 k's! I don't think Impact would list anyone who is not a stud.

It's definitely a reasonable question about a 5'8" soph, but Addison is an outstanding player for his age, and size. He has the speed, the arm and can contribute in CF, on the mound or at the plate. I'm not sure how much more he'll grow but for a left-hander with speed and an arm, size is not as important as it is with others. His selection is definitely not a fluke, it just remains to be seen how high his ceiling is. He has a big heart so it may depend less on appearance.....
i also think a lot who first see Basham(off the mound) do not think he could possibly get it up there at or above 90. Congrats to Basham on his First Team selection.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not nearly as we informed as most of the posters on this board. Knew there must be something special about this young prospect or he wouldn't receive the recognition. Th

    Great points SoutherNo1, NC-dad & Caroliner.

    Deacon32 -

Good question. Johnson is a smallish player. But he's 85-87 mph off the mound and probably has more hitting juice from the left-side than any guy in the NC besides Mangini, Hodges, Fronk and McCall. The young man can rake.

Bottom line, this guy is a big-time player. I have seen him 4 times now. Wow! Johnson is a gamer. He dives for balls in the outfield and plays 100 mph all the time.

For me, I would put him up against any outfielder in North Carolina. If you get a chance, go see him this spring - Man, he's fun to watch.

I compare him to Lenny Dykstra (with a much better throwing arm).

There is no question about it, all of these guys can "play". I think Impact did a good job of putting together 3 extremely competitive teams.

Sorry I didn't get to post sooner. What a great honor to all the deserving players. All of the selections are legit.

I am looking forward to watching Justin Jackson at TC Roberson...an '07 SS already rated one of the best in the State.

Great picks, great kids, great honor....Hmmm...I noticed all of our "Interviews" are listed...not bad!
