I think 007 made a real good point here that wasn't intended to address any particular situations. There are lots of situations we all know about where a player turned out to be really, really good, but wasn't on a varsity roster his freshman or sophomore season. It is still fun to identify and follow the ones who do make it early, though.

One example that comes to mind quickly is Michael Jordan, cut as a skinny sub-6'0" player from his Wilmington high school basketball team as a sophomore. He turned out to be pretty good.

I went back to re-read my topic and I can see that it is misleading. Unfortunately, I can not go back to edit the topic, so let me clarify.

I'm interested in all 06's and 07's that you guys/gals recommend. I am also intetested if any of them are playing Varsity.

I hope that helps to clarify.

By the way, can somebody in the know start a JV thread? I'd like to know how the schools project at that level

No way have I forgotten Narv, and I am not certain he was varsity as a Freshman or even a Soph? So anyone who thinks that is the ticket or some big deal, think again. I think it is better to PLAY JV or whatever than to sit on Varsity. I'll ask his dad next time I talk to him.

The thing is, and the season is very young, but Mud you had to have seen this kid yesterday. I think he has grown a couple inches and put on more mussle. I saw him in the fall as you did, and thought ok, he is going to be good down the road. But yesterday, wow, size, demenor, command. I said what I said and stand by my opinion. As you probably know, I hardly know the kid or his family, so its not like I am trying to do anything here other than someone else mentioned his name and I stated my opinion.... and ya'll know I hardly ever do that!! If things change, I'll let you know, but would never down a kid anymore than I would build him up if I didn't think highly of his talent.

I saw an older post about Justin Jackson, but since I had not really seen him play, I didn't feel as if I could respond. As I said MY OPINION he is the real deal. This season is going to be fun!!

Just go easy on us in April, we are young and tender. Shoot, he had us beat as a freshman and we were a senior laden team.

    Name: Tim King (Soph)
    Team: Piedmont
    Postion: P/SS
Projection:Solid at the plate with good hands in the field. From pitching stand point he got bombed against West Rowan (but so has everybody else) then comes back against Anson and strikes out 17. Supposedly has been throwing 87 to 88 but I haven't seen that kind of velocity. He does have a wicked hard curve which he got most of his strikeouts against Anson.

I thought Tim King looked good against West Rowan, despite "getting bombed". He showed good mound presence for a sophomore in a real tough situation. He threw strikes, and West hit 'em. That's the way this game goes sometimes. Tim King is definately a youngster to keep an eye on. Good luck to Tim and the rest of the Panthers this year.

Tonight I watched another sophomore pitcher pitch against West Rowan and I was really impressed. His name is Zach Brown of South Rowan. Zach looks to be about 6' 2-4" and about 180lbs. He's a lefty in the upper 70s to low 80s range with a good hook and change. He did a good job of making a senior laden, very experienced West team have to really work for everything they got for 4 innings.

NC, you know me, I'm not a pitching expert like you, but I really liked the looks of this kids mechanics. Although he took the loss and gave up 8 runs he never lost his composure. He looked cool as a cucumber out there.

It would probably be too much to ask, but.........it sure would be nice to see him in a South Rowan Legion uniform this year. He could make an impact there......or anywhere he plays for that matter. Good luck to Zach and the rest of the Raiders this season.
