West Stokes, Southern Alamance, and North Davidson are great softball programs, then everyone is in trouble! I went to the North Davidson Super Scrimmage yesterday. A day when I thought I could see some great softball but what I saw still has me a a total state of amazement.
Central Cabarrus in word DOMINATED the competition yesterday. The way they play the game of fastpitch softball is simple would be a joy to watch for someone new to the game. For the long time fan, which I am the way they play can be described with any adjective you decide to put in.
Playing three five inning games Central pitchers struckout an amazing 39, YES I SAID 39 BATTERS! :applause: Add that to their scrimmage with two time state champ Forbush and in the Central Pitcher, Allen, and Scism have struckout 59 of 75 possible outs, an amazing 70% :applause: .
I know some of you are going to say that Central has always done this, but what you don't know is that Gina Allen struckout 27 of 30 batters yesterday and hasn't thrown a fastball yet. Another thing you will have to worry about when you see Central Cabarrus this season is their offense. They hit the ball harder yesterday the the Yankees did in the entire World Series last season. You could see that someone had spend a great deal of time working with each young lady on her swing and you could see the work paying off. Upon on look you could see that person sitting on a bucket while his team played defense, or standing in the third base box when his team was at bat. That person Monte Sherrill.
I have read were some have posted that Sherrill took the job because he knew the talent he had would make him a state contender every year. However Tampa Bay was always a contender until a couple years ago. They knew their defense would win many a game for them as long as they got a couple of scores their defense could do the rest. This has been Central Softball in the past. Against elite competition they hoped to get a copule of runs had the ball to Cox or Allen last year and that was ususally enough. I am taking nothing away from the great Central teams of the past. Sherrill has come in like Jon Gruden. Now you have to worry about Central in every phase of the game. They will put pressure on you when they bat, when you bat, when they get on base, if you get on base, wow.
I could go on and on. Right now Central Cabarrus looks like a well tuned machine. Like Little E testing at Daytona in January before the 500 things are only going to get better. Now thats scary!

I agree with you on most of your comments. Mt daughter pays and our hitting as team has improved dramatically from the past. Allen and Scism are two great pitchers. 59 of 75 outs is closer to 805 than your noted 70% though.
Couple of thoughts. timing is everything. The coach , team and the Central commnity have really jelled. I don't think is it one thing more than another. We lost alot last year and only have three starters back at their positions (DC in center, Allen on the mound, and swank at 3rd) with Beatty moving from the OF to SS. Four returning, but Scism , Talented catcher Pushard, and several JV players mving up to fill the other spots.
Yes, the combination has come together nicely, My daughter says the coach talks them bench players through how the are going to pitch a hitter based on her stance , hands and angles. I have never heard such, but it seems to be working. I do know he gives alot of signals. I am just happy to be a part of a team again instead of individuals. Go central.

Your correct CC it is almost 80 %, which makes it even more impressive considering the level of competition.

I agree with you FP SUPER. The fact that Central Cabarrus is running through top notch competition this early in the season can't be good if your in the MECCA 8. Or 4A softball for that matter. It looks like they are priming the pump against the best they can find to play them. Look out for them come playoff time.

FP SUPER Impressed with the review of the games.I only thought that only two or three people noticed no fast balls. :applause: CC will continue to get better ,offense hasn't fully awaken yet ,but when it does look out.Sherrill called a great game, this is new since some are used to the catcher in the past doing this.Should be a awesome year ,team is constantly coming together and after a few games and the players get comfortable with Coach and Coach gets comfortable with them things will only improve. :xyzthumbs

Sherrill calls a great game and once a coach knows his pitching staffs capabilities.....fastballs are usually not an option against other quality hitters in today's game. Coach is sitting there catching and evaluating each hitter and does it 20 feet away. Great pitching Gina!!

    Great start CCHS

    Allen/Scism

Good to see Scism pitch. In my opinion she is a great pitcher, but has not been used as much as she should have by previous coaches at CC. I think coach Sherrill will use Haley a good bit this year. It sure would be nice to see Allen and Scism take turns at pitching. If one gets in trouble, the other could help out. Both are great pitchers.
