Lynchburg College is the 'Next Level' for my freshmen DD. LC is a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Lynchburg College and Roanoke College split the season title last year, however Emory & Henry won the post season tournament. These 3 teams will likely fight it out for the ODAC bid to the NCAA tournament.

LC is 6 -1 thus far. They took two games from Southern Virginia University late in February.

The Hornets won all three of its games this past Friday on the first day of play at Methodist College Invitational (Fayetteville, NC). The first game LC showed some strong offense with a 8-0 win over St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn, NY). Ali Manns (my DD, Weaverville, NC/North Buncombe) made her first appearance of the season in the last inning, getting 3 K's.

The next game, Lynchburg defeated Frostburg State University 2-1 with a late inning rally. Ali started and got her first win giving up 4 hits and 1 walk. :xyzthumbs

The Hornets closed the day with a 2-1 win over host #12 rated Methodist in eight innings. Brittany Edelen (Aquasco, MD/St. Mary Ryken) fouled off eight pitches with two outs in the top of the eighth inning before a wild pitch allowed the winning run to score. Jen Overstreet (Bedford, VA/Liberty)pitched all eight frames, allowing just five hits and no walks.

On Saturday, LC concluded its trip with a second place finish, defeating Division II Edinboro University (Pennsylvania) 15-4 in five innings, and losing the championship game 4-0 to Emory & Henry. LC used all their hits in the semifinal game because they were no-hit in the final. Ali started the championship game but her and the defense struggled. After 2 errors and 3 hits in the first, the lead was 4-0. Ali (5 inninngs) and Larissa Roscher (2 innings)(Centreville, VA/Westfield) shut them down the rest of the way but the EH pitching was excellent.

LC (6-1) will travel to Murfreesboro, NC to take on the Braves of Chowan College on Tuesday, March 9.

    Watching the Next Level

CFBall... I did get to see very game this past weekend!! Watching your DD play at any level is just one of the best thrills that life has to offer. But yes, watching them play out their dream of playing at the Next Level is a total blast.
Its also hard to not be there for every game for the first time ever. I have coached or watched since she was 5. On the positive side, I will appreciate the games I do make, that much more.
    Life is good. :xyzthumbs

    Amy and Melody

Hanger4.... Unfortunately Amy has never been able to recover from her injury/surgery. At least for now, she has retired from pitching. I'm not even sure she is able to swing a bat without pain. I'm hoping a long rest will repair the damage and get her back on the field in some capacity. She IS an incredible talent.

Melody, has decided to stop playing ball. Melody was not going to be able to break into the lineup at first base because the position was filled with an all-conference college player. Her next option was outfield and that was going to take a year or so to break into the lineup. The all-practice, no play option wasn't something Melody wanted to do. She is a tremendous athlete and we will miss her terribly, but I understand she is very happy with her decision.

Hate to here that about Amy for your right, she is an incredible talent. Hope all things work out for her.
Melody also is a tremendous athlete. Did so enjoy watching her play. From what I've "heard" she could sing her way to stardom :applause: anyway. Keep us up to date on Ali now, don't make us go to LC's www. :laugh1:

    amy

thx for your kind words about amy
as of now she says her career is over
says she wont play again if she can't pitch

however she is rehabbing as if she is going to play again
started hitting a little soft toss last week without pain
starts simple pitching drills this week
has discovererd she misses the game so maybe we'll get lucky
going to do some fielding and throwing from infield positions starting tomorrow

after a couple of trying to do too much setbacks to her rehab she is on track to throw competitively again summer 2005
we shall see if the long layoff puts out that fire
    hope not

    Hornets split with Chowan

The Lynchburg College softball team split a pair of games Tuesday at Chowan College, dropping the first 3-0, and winning the second 7-6 in six innings.

Danielle DiFranco (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) had the Hornets’ only hit in the first game, slapping a single and stealing a base. Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) threw one and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Jen Overstreet (Bedford, VA/Liberty) allowed one run in four and 1/3 innings of relief to score the win in the nightcap, called in the sixth inning due to darkness. Julie Beyer (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) led the offense with a three-run double in the third inning, and drove in four runs overall.

Lynchburg (7-2) will compete in the Salisbury University Tournament in Maryland, this Friday and Saturday. They are scheduled to play Salisbury, the preseason Div III #1 team in the country and several conference champs.
