Alexander Central and South Caldwell have been the top teams thus far.

The real question is "who's going to be the spoilers" ... The NW4A gets three spots in the State tournament this season. The favorites for the top 2 spots are South Caldwell and Alexander Central. Who's going to capture #3 or is there an upset in the making somewhere???

McDowell lost their SS, 2B, C, CF and #2 pitcher ... they return Michael Taylor (LHP) ... anyone know what the will look like this season? Did they have anything promising on the JV squad from last season? That is a lot of defense to loose at once, much less a big hit on the pitching staff.

Watauga is 2-1, splitting with North Forsyth. Losing 3-0 and winning 10-2. They also beat Mount Tabor 3-1. They have 11 senors. I think that they will contend for the conference championship this year because they have the talent, experience, coaching, and they are possibly the hardest working team in the state. Next games: Friday home vs Mount Tabor and Sat @ South Meck.

I agree, I think Watauga will be right there. Always competitive very year.

    McDowell 12 Owen 0
I believe Owen was Mudcat's preseason pick for the top team in the Western Highlands Conference. Plenty of talent in McDowell, just might take a few games to sort it out. Don't know anything about East Burke, but something tells me they could be a spoiler.Watauga graduated just about all their innings on the mound, so they might be a little green pitching-wise. Alexander Central is the team to beat but may be vulnerable against good lefties.

It's looking good for ACHS after knocking off Providence last Saturday. There are many more games to play though so we'll see.

After South Caldwell's loss to Wilkes Central...I just don't know. Any one team can be beat on any one day, however. I still see them as coming in 2nd place though.
