    HT Bats and 43 feet

I think that the bats need to go back to single wall.
I watched a girl at Myrtle beach get her eye socket
broken. Believe to or not she played short stop and
had no time to react. Now about moving back to 43 feet.
I say don't do it because if you move back to 43 ft it
becomes even more of a hitting game, even more balls
are hit at the pitcher. You have more chances of the ball
coming back at you at 43ft than you do at 40 ft.
I know I have seen it my daughter plays college ball
and all 43 ft does is make it more of a hitters game.
Pfeiffers short stop hit 12 out this year with a HT Bat.
I also think all of the umpires need to take pitching
lessons. I have seen to many umpires making the girls put the
ball right down the middle.I had an umpire to ask me one time
why I was mad and I said your making my pitcher put it down the middle.
He said oh you just don't want anyone to get a hit and I said no she doesn't want to eat it.This is how our umpires think!they don't think injury!

Umpires should call the game as the rule book states. If any part of the ball crosses the plate while in the batter's strike zone, then that pitch should be called a strike. I have seen too many umpire's who only call a strike when the entire ball is over the plate. This is not what the book states and is not fair to the pitchers.

The next area of concern that schools and fastpitch associations are going to have to deal with will be from a legal perspective. We all know there a plenty of lawyers out there who are ready to represent an injured ball player in a lawsuit against a school system, fastpitch association, a team and a coach. The suit will say that the school, association and/or the coach should have known the dangers of the "hot bats" and should have taken steps to protect the players. It will only take one of these type cases with a large settlement or sympathetic jury award against a school, an association or coach that could cause major changes in fastpitch softball. A negative ruling of this type could cause the liability insurance to become very expensive and hard to find. Plus, how many coaches would want to put their time with such a huge liability exposure over their heads and risk being sued personally?

My opinion is that players and parents have the ultimate responsibility of protecting themselves and their children. If they feel a position on the field is dangerous, then require your child to wear a mouth piece and/or a gameface mask. The schools, associations and coaches should also take great care in educating all players and parents of the risks involved. Coaches should teach the "correct" fundamentals of playing all positions in the field which includes the specific ways protect yourself if you are pitching, or playing the corners. All coaches at every level should teach and practice these skills. There are a few who do, but most do not, especially in high school, travel ball and youth leagues.

    This is just me talkin...

If everything like what bats aren't allowed, face masks are required, and mouth pieces are also required... then the WHOLE game is gonna change. What's the next rule gonna be?! "You can't hit the ball" ?!?! Yea, I know that people get hurt, and that's a risk people are takin when they do play. So I think that everybody needs to quit tryin to be so restrictive about things. All players (well the people who have played more than a week) should know that they DO have a chance of getting hurt/hit. That's what makes athletes stand out more than "normal" people. They're not afraid of getting hurt or bruised or scrapped up. THEY DON'T CARE! Just stop restricting us, stop requiring things. I mean I do agree with the face mask on the helmet and the mouth guard. But bats are meant to be used... stop restricting the ones we like..........
