Many times, games are billed as a "must watch" game only to see it fizzle as the other team dominates....not last night!! The Independence vs South Meck game was as good as it gets.

What a great and intense game last night between Independence and South Meck. Both starters, Zack Farry and TJ Worrell, both displayed why they are two of the best as they battled and competed against two very scrappy teams with a lot of heart. There was no player that left anything on the field after the nine inning affair.

Each team kept up the pressure each inning hoping the other team would break....it didn't happen.. until the ninth...South Meck blinked and Indy took advantage.

Kudos to Robbie Bray for pitching a magnificent closing as the SM batters could not touch his curveball. Independence proved they were the best team in the city this year and I hope they go on and represent the city well.

:applause: ...to a team with a lot of heart and the Charlotte City Champions

    Independence Patriots

Great Post Braves! Great game, but a heartbreaker especially to those SM seniors that had such high hopes for the state. SM returns a great, great roster of juniors and sophomores next year and I will be looking forward to coming to that awesome stadium next spring to watch some exciting baseball. I want to say how proud I am of all the team, but a special word to Scott Pesta, Kevin Spain, and Austin Henderson. These seniors didn't get as much playing time as they probably wanted as seniors, but each game they were there ready to do their job. They were always ready to play and hit when they went in and our team did well because of their performance. Many times on a 4A team there are so many players to choose from, and there are those players that could be starting at other schools, but because of the baseball history and such great program as SM they end up not getting a starting spot. They showed how good they were each time they took the field, but more than that they showed great character and integrity in how that handled themselves. I can say the same thing for some SM juniors who also did a great job in reserve roles; Daniel Foster, Cyril Daniels, Josh Cable. This is what made this team so special this year. It could have been very easy to be sour grapes at times, but these guys took their roles seriously and made this team #1 in the SW4A conference. Good leadership from Head Coach Hal Bagwell, and supporting cast of Coach Yeager, Coach Rummage, and Coach Wright showed these boys how to be the team they were.
I congratulate Independence and their fans for a hard fought game and wish them luck the rest of the way to the State Title!! Do Charlotte proud guys! We're behind you!
