2nd Round of the NC 4A State Play-offs

Independence 7 vs. South Meck 4 in 9 innings
    WP: Robbie Bray
    LP: Jonathan Ratledge

A hard fought game with both teams scrapping with neither team ever getting to much of an advantage on the other team during the first 7 innings.

T.J. Worrell started for South and Zach Farry started for Indy. Worrell stayed on the mound for South for 5 innings and Farry stayed on the mound for Indy for 4 innings. Kevin Spain for South relieved Worrell for 1 inning and then Jonathan Ratledge for South finished up for the Sabres. Robbie Bray relieved Farry for Indy and completed the game for the Patriots and proceeded to keep the Sabres off balance the remainder of the game through the extra innings as the Sabres were never able to score again once Bray took control of the game for the Patriots.

In the 9th inning, Indy took advantage of a walk and an error by South's pitcher to get 2 runners on base and a then a wild pitch by South moved up Indy's runners which led to an intentional walk to load the bases by South. Indy then got a timely hit down the first base line to score 2 runs to put Indy up in extra innings and then later scored an additional run to make the score 7-4 Indy. In the bottom of the 9th, the Sabres were unable to create any offense which ended the game on 3 South ground outs.

Congratulations to Independence for fighting to the end and never giving up! Congratulations to South Meck as well on a hard fought game but tonight was just not South's night.

Good luck to Independence when they host Alexander Central @ Home on Tuesday, 5/25!

    South Meck's Overall Record: 24-4
Independence's Overall Record: 25-2 thus far...

    pinecrest 2 hoggord 8

Pitching duel until the 4th. when a horrible call by the homeplate ump put the vikings up 2-0. Foul Homerun.. clearly foul by 20 feet and I have it on camera. Anyway Patriots tried to come back in the 5th with a run making it 2-1. And then after that the vikes just started hitting. Good job Hoggord! Good luck the rest of the way.

Joey Young was the winning pitcher getting 1 out in the six then Warren
took over. Ready for Hoggard. Warren will be starting.

Here's a recap of the Page win over East Forsyth. Congratulations to the Pirates as they continue their hot streak on to the 3rd round. Props to East Forsyth on a fine season and good luck to Ryan Basham as he moves on to the next level to play for Elon. :applause:

Even if the ball was foul the score would still be 6-2

Wow... Athens playing very good baseball right now. Green Hope and Wakefield were not the easiest opponents early in the playoffs.

They are one of those teams without a standout superstar... but they are solid and will beat you.

Rose is the heavy favorite against Athens, but Athens has proved everyone wrong so far... so who knows.

    Good Luck Athens.
