    East Rutherford came from behind to win for the 4th consecutive game, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to beat the Hornets in Game 1 of the Western semi-finals. Zeke Blantons bases-loaded double in the 6th put the Cavs up 4-3 and they hung on for the win. Christopher Wittimore pitched 6.1 innings of brilliant relief, allowing only a solo HR by J. Rook, for his 11th win of the season. East travels to Guilford for game 2 Tuesday at 7:30. East has now won 33 consecutive games in May covering the last 3 years.

    WESTERN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

    East Rutherford 5 Western Guilford 0

    East Rutherford advanced to their 3rd State Championship appearance in the last 3 years with a 5-0 win over the Hornets. The score was 0-0 until ER's Preston Shytle walked to open the 6th. That brought up Chad Flack with no outs. He took WG's Rook's first pitch over the wall in right-center, giving the Cavs a 2-0 lead. It was Flack's 18th HR this year, two short of the all-time record and making his State Record for a career now 43. Jeff McCracken added a two run single that inning and a bases-loaded walk in the 7th to give East the final margin. Garland Jones pitched the complete game shutout.

    Game #1: SW Edgecombe 8, East Duplin 1
    Game #2: East Duplin 6, SW Edgecombe 5

    These two teams will lock up again on friday to see who gets East Rutherford.
