As for driving directions, just remember on Friday afternoon, traffic on the interstates around Charlotte is terrible. I-85 north going from I-77 towards I-485 will be bumper to bumper. If you are going to take I-485, I would recommend taking the US29/49 exit (one past Sugar Creek Road) to NC49 (towards UNCC), about 1 mile past UNCC you will come to I-485. Remember the access to I-485 is a left turn. It is immediately after Pavillion Blvd (Verizon Ampitheatre). That stretch of I-485 back towards Mint Hill is busy, but not stop and go (yet!). Coming from Hendersonville, I would take I-85 around Gastonia. My favorite way across Charlotte at that time of day is Freedom Drive to John Belk Freeway (I-277) to US74 (Independence Blvd). Once again, Independence is pretty slow, but if you take I-485 from I-77 south, you are guaranteed to sit in stop, stop and sometimes go traffic for about 2.5-3 miles. You will stop almost immediately when you get on I-485 from I-77 and it will not pick up until you get past NC51 (at Carolina Place Mall in Pineville). Then it will be very congested around Johnston Road exit and Providence Road. Lots of surface road choices, PM me if you want my opinion on those.

OOOPPPPSSSS, About forgot the worst thing. It is RACE WEEK, which means there will be an extra 50,000 cars on the north east end of the county.
