Pitcher toes rubber with ball and pitching hand in glove, she then brings ball out of glove, continues her windup, brings ball back to glove then finishes windup and delivers pitch. is this a legal pitch ?

    Thanks for responses !

The way I understand the rule this would be an illegal pitch. The rule states -while on the pitching plate, the pitcher shall take the signal or appear to take the signal with the hands separated. The ball must remain in either the glove or pitching hand. (rule 6 sec 1. b.) Then sec 3. b. states the pitcher must not use a pitching motion in which, after having the ball in both hands in the pitching position, the pitcher removes one hand from the ball, and returns the ball to both hands in front of the body. Hope this helps.

    Depends....

Does she bring ball back to the glove or does she place it inside the glove? Not really much of a differnece, but does make a difference for the interpetaion of the rule. If she goes inside the glove, then it's an illegal pitch. If she only touches the glove, then it's OK. Spliitin' hairs I know, but that's how this game can be sometimes.

She goes back inside the glove.

From everyone who saw it and from answers this morning on this board, everyone says it is an illegal pitch.

The only person so far who disagrees is the umpire, who stated to our coach, "This is not slowpitch. she can go back to her glove as many times as she wants, and your pitcher is doing the same thing." (which she wasn't ) Can you believe that answer ! I'm not saying this cost us this game, but this kid did this every pitch, obviously she has been taught this way and has done it all year. I think it needs to be called because it is not a gray area, as some pitching things are, ie. crow-hopping, which are never called.

Very much illegal , Both feet on rubber, hands separate, bring together and at that point ball in hand and all motion is forward, can not go back into glove, can touch but not back inside glove ,getting the call maybe a different story, too many times a team gets hung up on something like this and lose focus of the game.

Thanks for the comments. I knew you would have the answer on this ! Don't believe it affected the game or focus of team however in this situation, as the argument was dropped after the 1 st inning when it was obvious the umpire did not understand the rules. E. Davidson just played better defense than MP did last night, and we cracked before they did.

Good luck to CC, see you Friday Night under the lights !
