    Now....

The call has been made to my son, so a "list" should be out soon.

Wes McCall received an invite, but respectfully declined the opportunity. After much thought on his part and discussions with other players who were trying out for the West squad, Wes decided that an "unsigned senior" should fill his spot. I've discussed this with parents and coaches and in my opinion I think the "Senior Games" should be for "unsigned seniors" only. Those players throughout NC who have already been blessed with extending their careers in college would not mind having their fellow players get a shot at their dreams, too!

And...Coach Greeson is a man of integrity and would never "play favorites" or "politics" when it comes to choosing an allstar team. He has the assistants do most of the evaluations becuase he's helping to keep the workouts flowing in an orderly fashion. I even heard parents complaining because the tryouts took too long. They've obviously never been to a "showcase" event where scouts were doing evaluations. They can be done more quickly only if you give each player one throw from the outfield and infield and then give them 3 swings at the plate. I'm rambling! My point is...see the best, play the best.

Good Luck to Coach Greeson and the Senior West Team...whomever you are and wherever you played!!

    The "O",

Could you explain why you think this is POLITICAL? The coach doesn't know Smith or Fisher but he knows Taylor. Taylor was on the Underclassmen Region 6 team last year. Mt. Pleasant is 2A so they don't get looked at very often. Maybe they all had a very good tryout!

Sports Fan, don't get baited into an argument. Last year, JH Rose had 4 players on the region #1 team. They also had a deserving 5th player who was left off.

The coaches will decide, not a message board. All of the coaches of the Senior team are noted for their baseball knowledge and integrity. The fact that none of the coaches come from the Rocky River 2A is a strong statement about the quality of the players over at Mt. Pleasant (which I'm sure South Meck will attest to also).

NO ONE CAN PICK 15-18 BALL PLAYERS FORM WESTERN OR EASTERN NC AND NOT LEAVE OFF DESERVING PLAYERS. APPOX 165 SCHOOLS IN THE WEST SURELY SOMEONE MUST BE OMITTED. WHAT A STATEMENT FROM THE KID THAT HAD ALREADY SIGNED. HOW MANY ACTUALLY WERE AT THE TRYOUTS AND HOW MANY DID NOT GET INVITED BUT DESERVED TO BE. POLITCS ALWAYS IN STATE GAMES!!

    Your math doesn't "add up"....

165 schools, but 100 players show up???? Sounds like only about 40 schools participate out of the 165 or so.

    In cases like that, 3 isn't un-reasonable.

The Mt. Pleasant pick was political last year.....and stayed status quo this year:nono:

Not fair, not right, but that is the way that it is.

Mama Slam, Taylor had one of the best tryouts out of anybody, he was one of only about 30 to show up both days, he hit the farthest ball at East, and two of the farthest at Wilkes, he also had one of the best times at EAst and the best at Wilkes, how is that political?

All 3 Mt. Pleasant boys had great tryouts, on both days. Its hard for a coach to get a look at a kid when they only show up one day and get 5 swings, maybe 6 groundballs, 4 throws from the outfiled, 10 pitches, and 3 pop times. but when a kid comes to both tryouts it makes it an easier decision for the coaches.

    yes, political

The best POP time was not Taylor's either year. The catcher's were selected before the tryouts were even held. And THAT'S NOT political?????? Give me a break! And not selecting proven two and three time "ALL STATE" and "ALL CONFERENCE" selections isn't political? If selections are to be made before the tryouts, don't bother having the boys travel to the locations. And if the senior games are to be for the unsigned seniors (we were told that also), don't bother having the signed seniors tryout. Maybe that's why Taylor was selected and attending?
