What are normal minimum statistics and acheivements that are considered in being named All Conference and All State? Does this vary from confernce to conference or are there minimums set by the state?

Not sure, but I do know an outfielder from Davie County made All-Conference in the CPC with a .217 batting average with 7 stolen bases. How can that be?

I think some sort of criteria needs to be set forth. A 3A WNC 1st baseman made All-conference based on her batting average of .315. However, she committed more errors (13) than anyone on the team.

    Remember

All Conference is like every other award, its all subjective. The coaches in the conference struggle with this every year. There are always players deserving that don't make it through the selection process. What I struggle with is when we down a player who did make it. Lets congratulate those who did make it and continue to encourage those who did not. :applause:

    In a word, "Politics"
There is no system for judging all conf. I heard one coach in another conf. say they would not vote for any girls from a certain school because they didnt like the coach, How sad is that?.
Another used this as their guideline.
That school wins the conf. every year. so Im not supporting them for all conf. Crazy huh?
Without a system in place this is what happens year after year.
But I dont think Stats alone will work either because that is subjective to a score keeper that may not know the game (IE: a non playing student)
I dont have an answer on how to fix it, but just keep in mind the selection process, give praise to the girls that make it, and not get too upset with the outcome.

    ALL CONF.

Dawgfan I agree with the politics , need to go to some other format to make all conf. something special. If a coach doesn't recommend then that person is not even on the list and if a coach is not liked it doesn't matter who they reccomend , no votes. Any one have any suggestions on how to redo this selection send it to the AD of your school. I have talked to our AD and I think this will be a topic of discussion at their next meeting.

Coaches Need to be Realistic About Selection Process

I think the coaches need to step up and take responsiblity for who they nominate for all-conference.. For instance, if your team finished 3rd in the conference and you can nominate 5 players, but the coach honestly knows he/she only has 3 players who performed at a all-confernce level, then the coach should only nominate those 3 players. By nominating 5 players, this waters down the whole all-conference selection process. But most coaches would like the fact that their team had 5 all-conference selections. Therefore it would be a coach of strong character who would only nominate 3 qualified players as compared to nominating 5 players of who only 3 were qualified. If the coaches won't police this themselves, then maybe the confernces and AD's need to step in and reduce the number of selections.

I know coaches who play the "give and take" game (you vote for this one of mine and I'll vote for one of yours). This has been going on for years and it's just the way the process is. Plus there can be some animosity between coaches (for instance if a player transferred to another confernce school) that can also sway the selection process. However most of the time I believe the coaches try to be fair and vote for the best all around players. Maybe there are just too many players selected.

    Well said! :applause:

I know the baseball coach at Bishop McGuiness High School did just that this year. He felt he only had 2 players that were worthy of All-Confernce honors and that's all he nominated even though he could have had 4 players chosen.
Way to go Coach Wernsing! :xyzthumbs :applause:

    All conference etc.

Why not let the girls from each team advise their coach of the opponents that they feel were worthy of all-conference honors, they see them at least twice and sometimes three times a season. Further, many play against each other on summer teams. U could also look at stats, defensive ability, contributions to the team and combine the scores to reach the selections. Probably to complicated but at least it would bring some reason for selection. There are girls that prevent runs with great defensive plays, run bases well, get down bunts when needed but get overlooked as Dawgfan says because they do not hit 300+. U really can never stop some of the injustice but isn't life that way? We always will face things that do not seem right. RET
