I clocked Marcus two weeks ago during a legion game for one inning. He pitched at 91-93, so 'popping' a 96 is certainly reasonable. I also spoke with him today at East Rutherford's practice. His goal is to enter a 4-year school after his sophomore year, which he has made known.

...... and that's certainly reason for MLB teams to skip over him. If he's let it known he's staying in school, why draft him (unless you want to test your persuasive skills :D :D)

I'm not doubting what anyone has seen. But I can tell you I saw Covington this spring and he was 86-88. In centerfield is where he played best, showing an above average arm, but didn't have the speed to stay in center. He also had some holes in his swing, had difficulty hitting off speed, but did show MLB avg. power. When he was pitching he didn't show much promise for me. He appeared to be max effort and didn't have much movement on his off speed stuff. I agree that the second pitch is what cost him at being signed. I also have to agree that I don't understand why a player would be redrafted by the same team. Why wouldn't the team sign the player and send him out if he is important enough for a draft pick? I'm sure there is a lot we don't understand about this situation though, such as wanting to attend a 4 year school. I agree that Hicks was their best player though. And what does "grab an anchor" mean? I'm not up on all the lingo anymore I don't guess!! :)

As an aside, Louisburg had 5 of their signees get drafted. Chris McConnell in the 9th round, Brian Logan in the 11th round, Woods Fines in the 14th round, and Bailey Daniels/Zach Phillips both in the 47th round. Nice testament to the quality of class that Louisburg is bringing in! Hope to see them all at Louisburg next year!

That's the truth! They have one of the best classes I can remember in NC. I figure that the McConnell kid and the Logan kid will sign, but all the rest will end up on campus in the fall. I'm anxious to see how they will hand out all the innings to the pitchers as they are loaded up with pitchers.

If I were drafted any where in the draft I would sign. You may not see that opportunity again and you can always go back to school.
