CAVS TAKE 3RD STRAIGHT TITLE!

It wasnt easy, but the East Rutherford Cavaliers won their 3rd straight N.C. 2A title, beating a tough Southwest Edgecombe Cougars team at Doak field in Raleigh last night. Game 1 went easily to the Cavs Friday night, as they capatilized on a couple of errors by SWE and won 7-3. But thought of a sweep ended with the Cougars thrilling 5-4 game 2 win, a game where tensions ran high between players and fans, setting up a winner-take all game 3. The Cavs came out hitting, jumping out to a 6-0 lead behind key RBI hits by Brett Walker and Michael Melton. Christopher Wittimore held the Cougars down until tiring in the 6th. That brought on Garland Jones, who dominated the Cougars in game 1. A tired Jones gave all he had, and although the Cougars got to within 6-4 with two runners on in the 7th, a ground ball to Preston Shytle ended the game and gave the Cavs the 3-PEAT!.

- NC Prep high 32 wins ( School record, and 32-3 overall.
- 50 Total Homeruns, .358 batting avg., .501 On Base %.
- 34-1 record last 3 years in May-June
- 3B Chad Flack set all-time HR record of 44. Also 2nd in one-season (19).
- Pitchers Christopher Wittimore (12-1) and Garland Jones (10-0)combined 22-1.
- Coach Bobby Reynolds wins his 10th State Championship Ring as a player or coach, (Legion, High School) also recorded 250th career win during 04 season.

Congralations to the entire team and especially the nine seniors who ended great prep careers.

 

Congrats to a great E Rutherford team. I said after the Regional Final that ER is the best team in the state regardless of classification. Coach Reynolds has a first class program and the passion shown by the fans is unmatched. Great job
