Robby Bray moves into State Record Book

    Sophomore pitcher Robby Bray of Independence has made his mark in the state record book for win's in a season. His final mark on the season was 15-0 (mis-print in the observer giving him only 14). Throw in 2 saves and he had an outstanding season.

    The Current Record Book for NC:
    Wins in a Season:
    23 - Steve Streater (Sylva-Webster), 1977 (23-1)
    14 - Thomas Mitchell (Bladenboro), 2000

    Streater accomplished his feat back in the days before inning limits were imposed on pitchers. He pitched about every game. Sylva-Webster is now Smoky Mountain HS (out by WCU).

    and to think he didn't make All-Conference -- what a travesty!!!

    Does anybody have the MECA-8 All Conference team(s)? I heard they weren't to be released until after Independence was finished playing and they finished Sunday afternoon but I haven't seen it. Did I miss it?

    The Observer didn't publish the Meca-8 all conference team last year either.... maybe they'll get around to it eventually. I figure somewhere around 2010.

    If Bray didn't make it, it is really a shame.

    Have either of you heard definitely any of the boys that made the team? Did they have a first & second team or honorable mention? My son played JV in the Meca-8 but I have watched a lot of the varsity players play ball, I know some of them, and have heard many things about a lot of the Meca-8 boys so I would like to find out who made it (before next season).

    It's incredulous that no coach has called in the Mecca 8 selections to the Observer....just amazing!!!! :nono:

    NC?...why don't you call Coach King and get the information.

    All Conference

    How does someone with the most wins in the state not make All Conference? If it is based on his record for conference play, he still had to have the best record of all pitchers. Something doesn't seem right.
