Kannapolis Wins Area III 3-0 over Greensboro

    Kannapolis 7
    Greensboro 1

    WP Garrett Sherill
    LP Justin Brown

Not a very good effort by Greensboro in this series. But hats off to Kannapolis - they had the hitting and the pitching to make it look easy. Sherill pitched good - striking out 9 giving up 5 hits. The only Greensboro run game on Jordan Pegrams steal of second, advancing to third on the wild pitch and scoring on a bad throw to third.

Kyle Segar was the Greensboro killer again tonight with a 2 run double in the fifth. Kannapolis scored 3 more in the 7th all on two Trevor Mullins errors in right. Two more in the 8th knocked Justin Brown out of the game. Brown went 8 1/3 striking out 5 ( maybe 6) giving up about ten hits. He had his usual mid game slump - if he can get through that he usually finishes strong but not tonight.

It was a slow steady drizzle from about the 5th inning on. Never enough to call the game though.

And for a mini rant - I know it's part of the game but I hope Greensboro remembers the loud mouth kid in the Kannapolis dug out if they run into each other in Shelby - not that he said anything bad but it was getting old - not sure if the K-Town coach told him to zip it when he walked into the dug out during the pitching change but he did quiet down after that.

But - no sour grapes - the better team definitely won easy in three. Good luck to both teams in Shelby next week.

    Area III Finals....

Kannapolis simply jumped on Greensboro early in the 1st game of this series and I don't think Greensboro ever recovered. Kannapolis has been hitting the ball well all year, but their bats 1-9 are clicking on all cylinders at the right time. The most impressive stat (and surprising to me personally) is that Kannapolis outscored a very good Greensboro team by a combined 36-8 score in this 3 game sweep to capture their 2nd consecutive Area III championship.

Congratulations to Greensboro(25-7) on an excellent season and good luck in Shelby.

Congratulations to Kannapolis(30-8) as the 2004 Area III champions!!!

Wossa, sorry I missed you, I didn't get your last message about meeting at the concession stand until I got home so I didn't know to look for you. Maybe we can meet in Shelby. And for your info, the Kannapolis coach "DID" tell our player to zip it, and our player did. It was one of those "excitement things" and nothing intentional, and certainly nothing disrespectful towards Greensboro with the great season that they had.

36 runs - thats incredible consdering Greensboro only gave up 68 in 20 regular season games.

I'm not sure if I can make it to Shelby or not - I hope I can for at least the first round. I figured the coach said something when he walked into the dug out - like I said I know that razzing the other team is part of the game.

Good luck to Kannapolis. I hope Greensboro does well but I won't cry much if they get knocked out quick - I'm ready to get the Ragsdale QBs on the practice field :xyzthumbs

Caldwell County swept Pineville 4-0 in the Area IV western series, so Pineville is done.

Shelby has already started a State Tournament website at www.shelbylegionpost82.com with a complete list of teams, maps, schedules and all sorts of other information.

Of course we will continue making comments about these final teams on this thread too until a state champion is crowned.

Just wanted to say congrats to Kannapolis for defending their Area III title. :applause:

Also congrats to the Greenboro team.Hope both teams represent Area III well in the state tournament.

Wossa....Was you wearing Carolina attire at the game?I did not get your message until I got back from the game.I sat behind home plate the 1st 5-6 innings then wandered down toward the concession stand the last few innings.

I agree #9 can get on your nerves. He's been that way all season.Very vocal.Your pitcher #2 seemed to quite him down some after he beaned him.I could see that coming two innings before it happened.

Maybe we can get together in Shelby if you make the trip.

hell - you must forgive this old man his poor memory. I don't remember what I was wearing. I sat most of the game on the bleachers behind home plate, was sitting right there with all the scouts gunning Sherill.

I missed the beaning. I had wandered out to my car, disgusted with the score and the rain. I was thinking about leaving but I got an umbrella and watched the last two innings but spent most of that time talking to Tommy Norwood, the Ragsdale football coach.

If I decide to make the trip to Shelby I'll let you know.

    and one last question fellas.

    What's a wojan?

Wossa.....Kannapolis legion only draws from two 3A schools.Kannapolis Wonders and the Northwest Cabarrus Trojans.Putting their nicknames together you come up with Wojans.

I saw the Ragsdale football team practicing.Looks like they had a good turnout.Do they have a chance this year against that bunch from Crest in the high 3A?
