Dang...that's two impressive Championships under their belt this summer. How did Ryan Basham and Wil Boyd do?

Ryan Hinson (2005 from Rock Hill Northwestern) was named the Most Outstanding pitcher for the championship (2 wins, 12 shutout innings). The same story for the CABA and Perfect Game championships, team play with outstanding pitching, sound defense and timely hitting.

We better jump on that pitcher and get him down to Winthrop.

I'm not sure of Wil's numbers for the week but I'm sure he had another solid tournament as he has all summer. He's been handling the wood really well against quality pitching.

Ryan threw against Pro Level Sports on Tuesday and got the win. He went 6 innings striking out 13, allowing 1 run and 2 walks. He was as high as 90-91 and cruised at 87-89. He did all of this while the Diamond Devils were being shutout and no-hit until the bottom of the 6th when they scored 3 to give Ryan the win. Amazingly, although the Devils won 3-1, they never did get a hit.

The Diamond Devils were probally the best team my son has ever played on! They were stacked from top to bottom. They had 6-7 pitchers who threw 90+! The Devils will have kids attending Ga Tech-Clemson-South Carolina-College of Charleston-The Citadel-UNC Charlotte-and Elon!
Wil Boyd-Dan Woodall-Ryan Basham-Alex Chapman were the players from NC. They all played out of this world.
Wil played cf-Dan played 3rd-Alex played 2nd-and Ryan pitched.
2 names to remember from SC-6'3 Justin Smoak(switch hitting 1st baseman) and 6'1 Reese Havens ss. Both are 05's that will be drafted high! The pro scouts were all over them.
LHP's Chris Fidrych(Clemson) and Craig Thomas(S. Carolina) were 2 of the 90+ guys! Matt Weiters(Ga Tech) is going to school as a 2way stud threw 94mph. Mike Cisco(S. Carolina) threw 90mph. Ryan(Elon) threw 90-91!
The Devils only played in 3 wood bat tournaments all summer and won all 3!
Congrats to all the players 2 World Series Titles! Wow! :applause:

Havens had the best arm across the diamond I've seen in quite some time!

Except for catcher (Matt Weiters - Ga Tech) and 3B (Dan Woodall - UNCC), all other starting Diamond Devil position players are 2005's and will return to the team for the fall and next season:

1B - Justin Smoak (Stratford HS and USC)
2B - Alex Chapman (Freedom HS - D1 commitment pending)
SS - Reese Havens (Bishop England and USC)
LF - Trey Thomas (James Island HS and The Citadel)
CF - Wil Boyd (Hickory HS and Clemson)
RF - Sonny Meade (Stratford HS and The Citadel)

    Starting pitchers that return include:

Ryan Hinson (Northwestern HS - D1 commitment pending)
Mike Cisco (Wando HS and USC)
Sonny Meade (Stratford HS and The Citadel

Wes Chappell (James Island) also returns and should fill the catchers position while Brett Bull (Stratford) may return to fill the open spot at 3B.

Several other 2005's, who made significant contributions to the Diamond Devils U17 team this summer, will move up to fill holes in the U18 roster including:

David Anderson (While Knoll HS and USC)
    Tyler McBride (Ridgeview HS)

Dan Woodall's (3B) and Alex Chapman's (2B) performances in the field were outstanding during the tournament. Time after time, those two guys made big plays in clutch situations. Alex's stock increased after outstanding play during the last 2 days of the tournament. Dan could have easily received the outstanding defensive award for the tournament as his play was flawless at third.

Look for a commitment announcement soon for Alex. His play in the Perfect Game National Championship and the CABA National Championship has opened several opportunities.

Also look for a commitment announcement soon for Ryan Hinson. The big lefty was outstanding in the CABA tournament.
