A group of high school softball players from across North Carolina today were named as the "Elite 25" participants among nearly 80 prospects who attended two Elite Softball Showcase camps in July sponsored by National Scouting Report. The camps were held at Central Davidson High School and Catawba College. The "Elite 25" were selected for their outstanding performances by attending college coaches and NSR scouts. The players were rated after performing position, hitting and timed drills as well as squad scrimmages.

"While we were very excited by the overall talent at the two camps,
we are pleased to publically honor these twenty-five great kids. This was a tough decision, but coaches and scouts saw these individuals as those whose abilities stood out on those particular days," said Alan Parham, Director of Scouting for NSR Carolinas, sponsor of the events.

Named to the NSR "Elite 25" were (alphabetical by graduating class):
Chelsea Akers, '05, Western Guilford; Ryan Baker, '05, East Rowan; Angela Beard, '05, Fred T. Foard; Jennifer Brophy, '05, Hopewell; Kendra Bryant, '05, Eugene Ashley; Dana Burton, '05, A.C. Reynolds; Beth Hauser, '05, North Surry; Whitney Hinson, '05, Enka;Sarah Moore, '05, Rockingham Co.; Emma Parrish, '05, Franklin; Crystal Poe, '05, Southern Guilford; Kayla Richardson, '05, Ashe Co.; Ashley Saunders, '05, Plymouth; Samantha Stepp, '05, East Henderson; Jordon Stogner, '05, Central Davidson; Brittany Allen, '06, Western Guilford; Ashley Angell, '06, North Davidson; Megan Campbell, '06, Athens Drive; Rebekah Huff, '06, Madison; Randi Pruitt, '06, Maiden; Miranda Tounzen, '06, Enka; Katie Boyd, '07, North Forsyth; Casey Camp, '07, Kings Mountain; Morgan Childers, '07, Kings Mountain; Paige Coleman, '07, East Davidson; Suzanne Riggs, '07, D.H. Just Curious?

Where were all the talented players in NC and why didn't they attend the camp? I am talking about players from Central Cabarrus, The Top North Davidson players, West forsyth players, KArlie Love from east Surry, Kizer from North Meck, West Stanley players, and Butler girls. Why don't these talented players attend this camp????

    Good questions.

We would have loved for those players and others around the state to have participated. That being said, our dates were announced on TBR and iHigh several weeks before the camps took place. Still, we were pleased with the number of quality prospects who enrolled in our first ever camps. Our original first date conflicted with Rodney's Lady Blues camp and we respected the fact that he announced first. So, we waited until his camp was complete before announcing ours. It's our belief that people like Rodney, Ray Chandler and others who have put in years helping kids warrant our respect and full cooperation. We are not in competition with them, but hope to be complementary of their efforts. Next year, we hope to attract more of the best and will do a better job of getting notice out to the high school coaches earlier by contacting them at the start of the season.

Thanks for the nice comments. Good luck to U and your organization. Ray has truly made a major impact on fastpitch softball in NC, Rodney.
