Kudos as AJ Mason heads off to the University of Florida in a week! Great kid, great attitude, great work ethic, great student, and a TON of ability!!!! Asides from his parents there is NO ONE in the city or elsewhere who is rooting for him more, knows him personally, and extends well wishes for hopefully a great baseball career ahead... :applause: :xyzthumbs :applause: :xyzthumbs :applause: :xyzthumbs

There's no question the role you had in his life. I ditto everything you said about AJ. Every time I see him a dull ache resides in my heart, but the way he is overcoming his obstacles in life say more about him as a person than anything he accomplished on the baseball field. AJ will be successful in whatever he chooses to do. Thank you Alex and Sharon for producing such a fine young man whose best achievements will happen in the near future.

Copied this from the next level forum in case those from the prep forum didn't see it. For those that know AJ, we are rooting for him.

WOW!!! I love it for him. He is a great player but a greater friend and family member. I am proud of the way he fought through the things this past year and kept with it. He loves the school that he is going to. What a great teammate. He plays the game with 110% of heart. he will like it at UF and I wish him all the luck. He will make an impact his first year. Congrats AJ

Thank you for the kind words about A.J. I don’t take much credit for his athletic ability, but my head swells when someone says he’s a good kid.

Those of you who mentioned overcoming obstacles are the ones who helped him do just that. The support of so many people propelled AJ through a very difficult time. The Snells, The Hills, The Fronks, Greg Simmons, Fred Conger, and countless others showed concern in words and actions. Baseball people helped us shape AJ into a good young man and maybe someday he’ll be forgiven for the way he acted when he was nine and ten. Baseball taught him life lessons, broke his heart, then helped mend it again. I’ll always be grateful to the people who were there for him and to those who still had faith in him after all that happened.

I don’t want to give the mistaken impression that AJ is going to Florida to play baseball. He chose Florida for the academics and for the resources available at a large university. Had he wanted to play baseball badly enough, he was still getting calls from other schools as late as last week. He may try to walk on; he may not. The Florida coach told us, “Left handed pitching doesn’t walk through the door every day,” but in a state like Florida maybe it does. He’s having a lot of fun so far and despite their reputation as a “party school” the academics are rigorous, so he may not even have time. He’s happy and that’s saying a lot after the past seven months.
