Looking at the rosters of Duke, Davidson and Wake Forest, it is interesting to see the small # of NC high school players at these schools. If UNC has the best back-to-back recruiting class in the country, relying heavily on NC players, why do the private schools go for out-of-state talent ?

You think 1100 minimum SAT scores might limit the "pool"?

    I believe....

money is a key issue as well! Private schools are more expensive and often more have not the athletic money in the form of scholarships so they have to seek a certain "client" who can afford the school as well as those with high enough grades! Academic money combined with what lil baseball money they have still sometimes can only pay up to 1/2 or 2/3rds of what is needed! Hope this makes sense!

Based on discussions with the assistant coach, the new staff plans to do more recruiting in the state. The former coaching staff recruited many JUCO players from CA and high school players up north.
I would think in the state of North Carolina, if I was good enough to play in the ACC I would probably look at UNC or NC State just based on the money. If you come from out of state, the difference in tuition isn't as great. That's just my opinion.

From my experience with a son who attends a private college, the private school coach will tell you up front that they will try to put together a financial package (athletic, academic and any other financial aid for which they may qualify) that is comparable to the cost of going to a state supported school. They have to do that in order to attract recruits and to be competitive.

Good point!!! Many in-state tuitions in the North exceed what they would pay for out of state tuition in the south

The roster that I saw listed Bach and Ingold as the only two NC players. Both are seniors. The new coach, Rembielak had 24 in-state players at Kent State when he left, so maybe things will change. I hope the door opens, Wake is a great school.

Coach John Palmeiri attended Perfect Games this summer at East Cobb, he now knows about thisboardrocks. Indy Dad and I encouraged him to stay tuned to this board if he wants to know more about our High School baseball in North Carolina. He said he was primarily looking for arms (Pitchers). I haven't heard of any Wake Forest signings as of yet. With the success of Wake's in state recruiting for basketball and football, we sure hope Coach Rembliak and his staff follow suit and look closer to home.
