The Carolina Cubs played a DH with Louisburg(Varsity) on Sunday and the weather was perfect. Just great fun in the fall to watch good baseball on such a beautiful day. There was a very good crowd, several scouts on hand, great defensive plays, back to back HR's , and a grand slam! I was most thankful that I was sitting there enjoying a blissful day watching "America's favorite pastime", while remembering and praying for others in parts of the nation and world not as lucky as me.

How did Louisburg look? I hear they have a heck of a pitching staff. Did they look impressive? I hear Lenoir is looking pretty good so far.

No doubt that Louisburg has a top notch program, and I am sure their pitching staff is very good. They used several pitchers in both games so it is hard to really give a good report only seeing the ones that did pitch in limited innings and not being familiar with anyone to be able to say if it was a good day or a bad day for them. Pitchers have a special place in my heart( I have watched 3 sons on the mound over the years) so I know all pitchers have their on and off days. The Cubs hit the ball really well in the first game winning it 12-0. The second game was tighter with the pitchers and defensive plays limiting the Cubs to a few hits going into the 9th with the score 4-1 in Louisburg's favor. Top of the ninth they had a little trouble and Cubs were able to load the bases when the Grand Slam came to put the Cubs up 5-4. A scout there said it was an excellent low and away pitch, but the Cubs player just went down and got it and sent it over the fence. Louisburg came back in the bottom of 9th and scored 2 runs to win 6-5.

Thanks BB9er for the report. Can you recall any names of the players that caught your attention? I am also interested if Morgan Tyson got to pitch for Louisburg. He is one of my adoptive sons.

It appears as if the Cubs are legit....where are they from?

and you are right about the weather..as Ernie Banks used to say "Let's play 4" :)

The Cubs are coached by Ricky Keith, Mike Mullis, Scott Tharrington, and Will Brinson. The players are mostly from around Raleigh area with players also from Greenville, Wilmington, and east of Raleigh to the coast. They have 16 2005 and 3 2006 grads on the team. If you would like a roster, I would be glad to post one. The team will play in the IMPACT INVITE in 2 weeks so if you are there, you'll see them. The Cubs did play in the High Point showcase with Impact a few week-ends ago....when the weather was also beautiful and just a great week-end for fall ball!

The Carolina Cubs were able to get all 3 games in this week-end at the Old Dominion Showcase despite some showers that caused minor game delays or shortened games to 7 innings vs 9. This was a wood bat showcase. The Cubs played the Bayside Yankees, the Tidewater White Sox and the Jersey Warriors. Their record was 2-1 for the week-end losing to the Yankees in a game that was scoreless thru 6 innings. The Yankees were able to come up with the big hit in the 7th to score 2 via a bb, 1b, and 3b. The Cubs did get runners on but just could not string together any timely hits to score. Also, Yankees pulled off 3 double plays. Final score...2-0. The Cubs/White Sox(rescheduled game and shortened to 7 innings) were tied 1 all thru 4 innings but Cubs came up with a big 5 run inning in the 5th and held White Sox scoreless for rest of the game. The Cubs beat the Warriors 10-3 on Sun. able to get some nice hits (several 2b's and a HR).

Sorry BB9er...I'm not sure what Morgan's # is, but he's hard to miss....6'9" lefty

Yeah...the Bayside Yankees are always a very good team...some years they are one of the best in the country. Did they play the tournament with wood bats? Who hit the HR? Who had a great tournament? Who pitched?
