I heard this question asked to a post athletic director the other day and I do not agree with the response that was given. So, with the vast years of experience out there I will ask you …..
After a team’s roster is set and turned in. Are the players in that teams “base school area/zone” that would need a release to play elsewhere before the roster is set now become “free agents” to play where they choose? And if they are free agents and pick another team do they then belong to that team for the rest of their eligibility?
Please quote me rule book reference on this one.

Well before I go look something up in the rule book, think about your question. You are asking "if on the day the final rosters are set....."

The answer to that is on the day that final rosters are set, then final rosters would be set statewide. Thus after this date, no more players "SHOULD" be added to legion rosters nowhere in the state of NC.

A little clarification about your comment of being "free to choose their team",,,,,,,,,,, because even when kids obtain releases or get cut from their base school, they are NEVER simply free agents to pick and choose where they will play. If a kid obtains a release, or he is cut,,, he must then decide by mapquest the next closest legion program to his permanent residence and then he must report to THAT program only.

The example would be: Team A pushes the putton at 10pm and sets there roster. Team B can see who is listed on team A's roster and has two more hours to submit. Team B puts players that belong to team A's base school and have not been given releases on there roster. The claim is that they are "effectively" cut from team A when they were not put on there final roster. As you said "they are NEVER" simply free agents.

If they are cut from Team A when the playoffs roll around, are they really players that Team B would want on their playoff roster? If they are, then team B probably isn't looking to make much of a run anyway.

They were never cut from team A they were just not put on final roster. Team B just picked them up to see if anyone would question. It's not about the playoff. The question is is this legal and if it is quote me the rule.

There is one thing and one thing only that I wish everyone would take a look at and think about. The oath that ALL PLAYERS AND COACHES take before the game state:

    I will keep the RULES
    Keep faith with my teammates
    Keep my temper
    Keep my self fit
Keep a stout heart in defeat
Keep my PRIDE under in victory
Keep a sound soul, clean mind, and a healthy body

The oath is said each and every game for a reason. If our own Legion programs don't have to follow this then what does Legion Baseball stand for? We say this is a place to teach young men the ways of life and how to become a great person within the community. How does it look when the coaches are breaking the rules?

Thank you, My point exactley. And since there has been no rule response tells me that 1. this is wrong 2. no one wants to stick there neck out to say so. 3. no one cares as long as it does not effect them or they are the ones getting the upperhand. As you said " If our own Legion programs don't have to follow this then what does Legion Baseball stand for?"

Somebody has watched too many James Bond movies & Conspiracy Theory documentaries. The chance that someone would try it in the first place is far fetched and almost impossible due to enrollment rules plus how the roster is submitted. Rosters are not visible to others until the registration window has passed. This type scenario would not make sense or build a lasting relationships with players. In agreement with Luigi, how do you plan to take the players cut from a team to put together a winning team. Been around legion ball a good while & never heard any mention of such. BTW..not placed on a roster is the same thing as being cut. Don't believe in starting with an army and cutting down to 18 at the deadline, but understand why some do. Not right for a kid to know the level of commitment to play legion & then quit because he is going to miss out on a couple trips to the beach.

The players in question that Team B put on their Final Roster never showed up at Team A (which is their base school) to tryout or play. They were recruited to Team B’s field from day one and constantly asked Team A for a release the entire season and were told no. Team A does not have a full roster and could have used the players. They refused. Bottom line is does the rules of Release apply no matter what/when? In my opinion of the rules a player is never a free agents and are not CUT just because they do not show up on that final roster. If the rules of release have situations that they no longer apply then show it to me in the rule book in black and white, PLEASE!

Sorry for being a smart butt, didn't understand previously. Because it is a base school for your team, parent's address does not matter. They can not be on the other team whether you carried them or not. Without a release they can't legally play legion for any other team. Rule clearly states about not recruiting from another teams base school. No release, no doubt whatsoever that they are illegal if they are on another roster.
