Consisting of teams from all regions of the US that earned their way by winning in state and regional playoffs, the Babe Ruth World Series lasts for 8 days for teams that make it to the championship. are any of the TB tournaments formatted to go on for a week? that's a lengthy trip for out of towners.

and this world series is played at a field called "THE HOLE" at Rock Ridge. made for youth baseball, it's a classic.

Wilson County has done several Babe Ruth World Series. The players from the various regions are required to stay with local host families. Must be quite an experience for the kids and local families.

Surprised that Wilson County has done so well in pool play. They only have about 2-3 rec teams to choose from.

Babe Ruth is definitely different, 8 days for this tourney is way too long. Great experience meeting coaches and players from all over the US and getting their perspective on the different aspects of the game. I am very dissapointed , as were all the other coaches ( some in disbelief) in the location of this tourney. Non operating scoreboards are inexcusable for a world series and downwind of porta johns on 90 degree days is kinda tough. $7 gate fees and $40 tourney passes too expensive. I did explain to the out of staters that there were some very nice softball complexes in Eastern North Carolina and please don't judge us by this one experience. ALL the out of staters were impressed by the level of play by the 3 NC teams.

    Pitt County Babe Ruth softball

My daughter got her start in softball (after playing baseball) in the Pitt County Babe Ruth League. In fact, she was the winning pitcher in the final game of 2000 12U World Series. That was a cool experience playing in front of 1000+ people in the stadium in Wilson that was converted for the series. That would be the largest crowd she would play in front of until the NCAA regionals this year in Knoxville. That team featured three other girls who also would go on to D1 softball careers. They were Sam Murad (UNC), Anna Roberts (UNC) and Tiffany Shaw (ECU).

The all-star team was picked after the conclusion of the regular season. John Roberts prepared the team by practicing 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM the last three weeks of July at the field he had constructed at his home. By the time the series started that team could have probably beaten just about any 12U travel team in the country.

The organization remains active today although the focus has shifted to younger girls as the expansion of travel ball has bled the talent out of the league in the older age groups.

The Kinston/ Lenoir girls battled thru the losers bracket defeating last years champs Hamilton N.J. to advance Thursday morning to last years runner up Plaquemine La and won 2-0 Then defeated Wilson Co 1-0 in the first game. In their 3rd game of the day they fell to Wilson Co 3-0. They battled all the way and I am very proud of this team that was not formed until the first of July. These Carolina girls can play ball with anybody!!!

First and second place in the Babe Ruth World Series is quite an accomplishment! A NATIONAL accomplishment! Congratulations again!

Make sure the news media is given an opportunity to do a story on the teams. Team pictures and rosters would also be very welcome on this board I would think.

Keep up the great work! Great job Babe Ruth Association!

    good

good to see Wilson Co. win a Babe Ruth world series. Their sports director Mickey Davis has worked many a day and night for the youth of that county (and their district) to organize and coordinate all seasons' sports for many years.

and again quite an accomplishment in the fact that I believe they only had 2 (or 3) 12U teams in regular season rec ball. so only about 24 - 30 girls from which to choose an all-star team. impressive.
