Is there a "dead time" in the fall?

2 years ago, Div 1 coaches were restricted in the fall, between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. They could only go out the 4 designated weekends in October. They could recruit all they wanted up until Labor Day.

Last year, that rule was reversed and Div 1 coaches could recruit whenever they wanted in the fall, but most tournaments had already been set for those same 4 weekends and nothing really changed. There are still no restrictions on when coaches can go out, however I think most of the major tournaments are on the same weekends in October, rather than spreading back out.

You may see a little difference in where some of the major Div 1 programs go this fall since all of the national tournaments start after August 1st. Div 1 coaches have 50 countable recruiting days from Aug 1st to July 31st. Previously, most of the national tournaments started in July and programs only used a few days in August. This year, however, programs are going to have to divide their days up a little differently since the addition of Premier adds a tournament in August. Programs can easily go through 10-15 days just covering the national tournaments, so that may leave less days either in the fall or the summer that coaches are going to be out.
