Saturday game recaps

8 am ECU....Wilson Bulldogs vs Norcal East White

Norcal gets on the board in the 2nd on sac fly by Max McDowell. The dawgs scored 2 runs in both the 3rd and 5th innings on big rbi hits by Charley Jauss and Mitchell Wheeler. In the home half of the 5th trailing 4-1 Norcal loaded the bases on a walk to Russel Clark and singles by McDowell and Brady Sheetz. Coach Bissette went to his closer Zach Houchins with the game and a possible playoff berth on the line. Houchins did not disappoint the big local crowd as he struck out the first batter looking and got a tailor made ground ball for a 4-6-3 double play to save the game for winning pitcher Evan Phillips-Clayton HS. Final score: Wilson 4 Norcal 1

On Deck erupts in the 3rd for 9 runs, lead by Andrew Stidham 4 rbi HR blast into left center…. His second HR of the game.

While we experienced technical difficulties with the scoreboard, there was no power outage on the field between these two teams. It was a slugfest from the word go, with The Greys landing the last punch from their big first baseman Max Beermann. Big Lefty Max took the 2-1 offering from NorCal and planted it beyond right field wall for a walk off 2 rbi HR. That was Max’s second 2 rbi HR of the game.



Notes: Periods of rain during the game, but teams kept after it. Solid hitting and good hustle on the field made this one a back and forth one that was fun to watch. Greys win 12-10

Heat Showcase 16 Black vs Maple Zone Muckdawgs


Guy Smith Stadium

Weather: Perfect overcast 83 degrees no wind

Heat wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first, but Muckdawgs answered with 8 runs in the first two innings. Muckdawgs were led by Brian Dixon 2-2, Cooper Redding 2-2 and Matt Rowland 2-2 including a big 2 rbi HR in the second inning that would prove out to be the difference in the game.

Heat scrapped and clawed and hung tuff punching up 5 runs in the last 2 innings but fell short in a valiant effort with only 9 players on the roster for the game. Mike Paspy went 2-3 Zach McCall 1-3 with a nice big fly 2 rbi and Matt Pasby went 1-3.

Tidewater Drillers vs Diamond Dreams

Weather: Under the lights. Wind Light out to left. Game time temp 73 delicious degrees



The Drillers scored early and used the long ball often on their way to a win against the Diamond Dreams. Driller team mates Nick Walker, Turner Bishop, Tyler Ramirez and Kenner Berry each went big fly and combined for 10 of the Driller’s rbis tonight. Jordan Sargeant was effective on the mound, scattering 7 hits over 5 innings of work for the Drillers. Brandon Hayward took the loss for Diamond Dreams.



Special thanks to O’Charley’s Restraunt of Greenville for supplying cases of FREE bottled water to fans and staff a like at Guy Smith Stadium today.





3:10 pm ECU....Canes South 16u vs Tidewater Drillers

Curt Britt rbi single scores the first run of the game for the Canes. Drillers get a two out two run single from Kyle Morrison to take a 2-1 lead. Canes give away a run in the 3rd now trail 3-1. Britt and Luke Lowery go yard back to back in the 4th to tie the game at 3-3. Tidewater leaves the bases loaded in the top of the 5th as pitcher Dylan Sons gets a huge strikeout to end the inning. Singles by Dylan Raymond and Alex Rayburn give the Canes the baserunners they needed as both runners scored on passed balls. Canes take a 5-3 lead after 5 complete. The Drillers don't roll over and die as they cut the lead in half scoring a run as Nicholas Walker singled, Tyler Ramirez doubled and an rbi ground out by Colin Ballard but if not for a perfect throw from SS Landon Lassiter to the catcher to nail a runner at the plate on an attempted double steal the game would be tied again. Canes lead 5-4. A two out double by Kyle Humphrey gets back the run for the Canes in the bottom of the 6th and the time limit expires before the Drillers bat in the 7th. Final Score: Canes 6 Drillers 4

Weather: Overcast 70 degrees. Wind light towards left center

Canes North 16u scored early and often in Game one of Championship Day. Battling early showers and slick playing conditions, solid hitting kept pressure on the pitching staff of the Storm. Canes big first baseman Josh Sborz went 2-3 with 2 rbi. Great defensive effort late in the game quelled the Storm as they rallied. Catcher Christian Younce made a great webgem on a layout in foul territory in the top of the 5th. Pitching was stellar for the Canes, with starter Conner Henderson throwing 4 complete innings allowing only 1 run on 2 hits and reliever Shane Johnsonbaugh cleaned up the rest allowing no hits and no runs. This Canes team looks set to make a nice run today!

Note: After a brief shower during Game 1, field conditions were perfect for our Game 2 match up.

A game befitting Championship Day with no holds barred and batters swinging for the next round – Both teams combining for 21 hits in this one! Even though On Deck out hit their opponent by 1, the difference maker came in the bottom of the first when Hitters Warehouse Brian Beard took an 0-2 offering deep out of Guy Smith for a Grand Slam. Team mate Casey King added 2 runs to the board with a big fly of his own in the bottom of the fourth on a 1-1 count.

Notes: CF JoJo Kinchlow from Hitters Warehouse showed tremendous speed and knowledge in the outfield. On Deck First Baseman Nick McGee showed a never say die attitude in the bottom of the 6th with an unbelieveable layout effort over the rail in the first base dug out on a foul ball to gain an out.

A hit batter, 2 walks, a wild pitch, an rbi single by Will Adams and a sac fly by Cody Kyle ties the game at 3-3.
(A Matt Greskoff web gem in right field prevented further damage in the inning)
Two walks, two errors and rbi his by Colter, Dixon and Cooper Redding leads to 6 big runs for the Muckdawgs in the 4th.
3 runs in the bottom of the 5th give the Muckdawgs an 11-3 mercy rule victory.

Weather Partly Cloudy. Game time temp 78 degrees. Winds slight drifting towards right center. Field Conditions were ideal.



This was one worth hanging out for! Solid play from both teams defensively with double plays turned at every opportunity to keep each other in check. However, the Canes Mike Gill put on a show today carrying his 1 hit shutout of Hitters Warehouse into the 6th inning before being relieved by Nick Thompson. Masterful in his delivery, he spent the afternoon keeping hitters off balance with his Luis Tiant style of delivery. Canes Brandon Delk had another nice day at the plate, going 2-2 with a double and an rbi, punching the first run on the board for the Canes. Bradley Strong chipped in with 2 singles and an rbi. ECU commit Nick Thompson’s sac fly in the 6th gave the Canes an insurance run to finish out on top.


Notes: Press Box favorite JoJo Kinchlow of Hitters Warehouse again prowled CF like a pro, taking care of business in good fashion. Always fun to watch those outfielders who do it with ease…

Drillers vs Canes 1-0 game at CM Eppes middle was a awsome game. Drillers cf made the best catch that i've ever seen. With the score at 0-0 in the bottom of the 6th he made a leaping grab over the cf fence to rob the Canes of a home run. He left his feet and made the catch and landed over the cf fence. The big disagreement was whether it should be a out or home run.

 

17u Championship game at ECU 7 pm

Canes 17u vs Mid Atlantic Pirates
Canes win 7-0 over Pirates

Evan Beal tossed an absolute 2 hit gem with 12 k's to earn MVP honors as the Canes defeated the Pirates 7-0.

The Canes bats come alive for 6 runs in the 3rd inning.
Josh Clark singled, Dakari Cooke singled, Bradley Strong brought in both runners with a triple in the right field corner. Cam Capell singled (bringing in Strong), Tee McConnell singled, Nick Thompson walked and Patrick Corbett's double cleared the bases.

Michael Gill added a solo blast to round out the scoring.

Cody Queen had both of the Pirates hits.

Congrats to the Canes players and staff for winning the championship and hosting a great showcase.

Cody Adkins centerfielder for the Norcal East ball club hits a grand slam Friday night to win against the Richmond Braves. Also hit a home run Sat night to tie the game.
