Every year it seems less and less kids come out. Only 3-4 got cut from both the JV and Varsity teams combined. Not sure why but we see it in the youth leagues. Plus we seem to be losing more kids to private schools. When it comes to baseball, people are finding viable options in our area at private schools (Wesleyan, HP Christian, Bishop, Calvary, Forsyth CD and more). Plus you have the growth of various summer ball venues.

the effects of our "PC" society

add to that O.P., kids are doing other "sports". At Northwood there is a Ultimate Frisbee Club and they are trying to start up a Lacrosse Club team. This is all at a 2-A school!

In some ways I think that this is happening because of the lack of desire by some kids (and their parents) to face the challenge of having to make a team. It's easier to start something new, or go somewhere new, where everybody plays then to put in the work to make a team and earn the playing time. Life is about facing challenges... you don't learn much when your a$$ is facing the challenge as you run away from it!

Yesterday, when I went to pick up my DD from softball tryouts, the first group of girls to "come down the hill" were shedding tears. The cuts had been made and close to ten girls had been informed, face to face, by the coaches that they had not made the jv or varsity team. There were some that you could tell that it was going to be a long shot for them to make it. But there were also some that would have made the team at a lot of other schools. I am just as proud of these girls as I am of my daughter, and the other ones, that survived the cut. Most gave it their best and learned that maybe what they thought was their best can be improved on. A couple of others, who thought they had it made because they played last year, learned that you can never rest when it comes to reaching your goals and being a part of something special. These are lessons that can last a lifetime.

Come on Putt. Positive actions will yield positive results. And a few transfers.
