I'm a little concerned as well to learn that there are freshman and sophomores on the 18U Carolina Hurricanes team but I have not gotten to know the players on the roster thus far as my family has just recently joined the roster for the 2003 summer season. I will be able to give a better report and opinion on the team's skill level after a few scrimmage games have been played and after a tournament has been played.

And, the most important idea behind a showcase team is not only to have a good team but for an individual player to gain exposure to the highest quality of baseball play standard that is offered to him, to expand a player’s awareness of the benefits of top competition, and to showcase a player’s individual talents to knowledgeable baseball audiences.

What drew my family to the Carolina Hurricanes was the fact that it’s owner, Thomas Eaton’s primary purpose, is to find each senior a college baseball scholarship of some type. Coach Thomas Eaton is a scout for the Kansas City Royals and teaches at Victory Christian School in Charlotte, NC.

Both in 2001 and 2002 the 18U Carolina Hurricanes were USSSA State Champions and had the USSSA NC Coach of the Year back to back. Now, I’m not saying this will hold true for the 2003 18U Carolina Hurricanes but I feel good that this is a respectable baseball organization to be a part of at this time.

More on the 18U Carolina Hurricanes as their team’s season progresses…

SouthLoop, I can tell you this. We played the Hurricanes at the NC USSSA State Championships last year and Coach Eaton and the players were class acts. That reflects well on Coach Eaton.

Thanks Mudcat for a good report and reference for the Carolina Hurricanes and Thomas Eaton. This is nice to know since my family will be a part of this team this summer for the first time. We are looking forward to playing with the Hurricanes this summer. What team will your son be playing on this summer?

Being the sophisticated, urbane, knowledgable baseball instructor and resident guru of mountain baseball, Mudcat has graciously agreed to house, feed and teach a select small group of players who will become the next 16 college bound players for West Henderson .... Of course it helps in recruitment that he is raising 3 cheerleaders .........
